| Description/Notes: | Job Overview The Director of Fine Arts directs and manages the district's fine arts department. The Director ensures that the development and delivery of the fine arts curriculum and instructional program are effective and efficient, incorporate district goals, and support student achievement. Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Program Area Management Oversee the development and delivery of fine arts programs that incorporate district goals and support student achievement. Monitor and reevaluate fine arts programs on an ongoing basis using input from teachers and principals, applied research, and student data to determine effectiveness and improve outcomes. Recommend changes and adjustments to the program where appropriate to meet student needs. Encourage and support student performances, exhibits, and other displays of student work. Ensure that the necessary time, resources, materials, and technology to support accomplishment of educational goals are available. Participate in the district-level decision-making process to establish and review the district’s goals and objectives related to instructional programs. Engage instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional tools and materials to meet student learning needs. Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives (academic excellence indicators). Plan and provide staff development for fine arts teachers that supports instructional programs, incorporates input from teachers and principals, and is consistent with the district’s mission. Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to fine arts teachers to facilitate instructional improvement and innovation. Participate in the implementation of the designated teacher appraisal system. Curriculum and Assessments Advise teachers and other district personnel in the selection, use, and purchase of instructional materials and equipment related to specific secondary program areas. Provide presentations to the Board of Trustees and other groups as needed regarding fine arts curriculum. Policy, Reports, and Law Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required. Budget Develop and administer the fine arts department budget based on documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost-effective and funds are managed prudently. Communication Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community members. Supervisory Responsibilities Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions in fine arts department. Select, train, evaluate, and supervise assigned staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal. |
| Qualifications: | Master's degree in education Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment with music, art, dance, or theatre certificate Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification Minimum of 5 years of fine arts instruction (music, art, dance or theatre) Minimum of 2 years of fine arts leadership experience Proven experience developing and implementing curriculum, instruction and assessments Demonstrated understanding of best practices regarding the written, taught, tested curriculum Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing Additional Information This position may require travel to various campuses and meeting sites within the District. If you are a TRS retiree and return to work in a role that requires a TRS surcharge, you will be responsible for paying that charge via payroll deduction. |
