| Campus Description: | Round Rock ISD is seeking a dedicated and skilled Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist to empower students who are blind or visually impaired to navigate their environments safely, independently, and confidently. This role works collaboratively with educators, families, and campus teams to ensure students gain essential travel and orientation skills across school, home, and community settings.<br /> About Special Education at Round Rock ISD:<br /> Round Rock Independent School District provides a free appropriate public education (FAPE) to all children with disabilities ages 3–21. The district serves students with a wide range of needs, including orthopedic impairment, health impairment, traumatic brain injury, intellectual disability, emotional disturbance, learning disability, speech impairment, autism, multiple disabilities, and sensory impairments. Services for students who are deaf-blind, visually impaired, or auditorially impaired begin at birth.<br /> Special education services are specially designed to meet the unique needs of each student and are delivered in both special education and general education settings. These services may include instructional modifications, specialized support, supplementary aids, and other individualized arrangements to ensure students can access learning and thrive academically, socially, and communicatively. |

| Description/Notes: | The Orientation and Mobility Specialist evaluates, plans, and delivers individualized O&M instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired. Based within the Special Education Department, this professional conducts travel training across campus, residential, and community environments while collaborating closely with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, purposeful movement and environmental access. Key Responsibilities: -Assess short- and long-term needs of students with visual impairments; recommend goals, objectives, and service frequency; and document progress. -Provide direct instruction in concept development, gross motor skills, visual efficiency, pre-cane and cane techniques, tactile map reading, and low-vision devices. -Conduct travel training in home, campus, residential, business, and community settings, including instruction on public transportation. -Orient students who are visually impaired to school buildings, classroom layouts, and daily campus schedules. -Consult with teachers, staff, and families regarding environmental and classroom modifications that support safe, independent mobility. -Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings and maintain compliance records, evaluations, and IEP paperwork. -Transport students to community locations when required for purposeful travel instruction. -Promote disability awareness and peer integration by helping school staff and students understand visual impairments. |
| Qualifications: | -Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. -Valid certification in Orientation and Mobility from the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP). -Valid Texas driver’s license or Texas Identification. -One year of student teaching or an approved internship in orientation and mobility. |
