Royal Junior High School serves students in a growing community and is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Life Skills Aide to support students receiving special education services.

Description/Notes

Royal Junior High School is seeking a compassionate and dependable Life Skills Aide to assist teachers in providing instructional, behavioral, personal care, and functional support to students in the Life Skills setting. The ideal candidate will work closely with the special education teacher, campus staff, related service providers, students, and families to support student success in a safe, structured, and caring environment.

The Life Skills Aide will assist with classroom activities, student supervision, implementation of Individualized Education Programs, behavior supports, daily routines, and student independence.

Primary Purpose

Assist the special education teacher in providing support to students with instructional, behavioral, communication, social, functional, and personal care needs. Help students participate in learning activities and develop skills necessary for academic, social, emotional, and daily living success.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED required
Educational Aide certification required or ability to obtain
Paraprofessional requirements as outlined by the district and state

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work with students with disabilities
Ability to follow teacher directions and implement student supports
Ability to assist with instructional activities and classroom routines
Ability to support student behavior plans and positive behavior strategies
Ability to assist with personal care needs, mobility, and daily living skills, as needed
Strong communication, patience, flexibility, and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Experience:
Experience working with children preferred
Experience working with students receiving special education services preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Assist the special education teacher with instructional activities, classroom routines, and student support.

Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning and support skill development.

Assist with implementation of student Individualized Education Programs, accommodations, modifications, behavior supports, and classroom strategies as directed by the teacher.

Support students with communication, social skills, functional academics, daily living skills, and independence.

Assist students with personal care needs, mobility, feeding, toileting, positioning, and other physical needs, as required by student plans and campus procedures.

Help maintain a safe, structured, clean, and supportive classroom environment.

Monitor and supervise students in the classroom, hallway, cafeteria, restroom, playground, arrival, dismissal, and other school settings as assigned.

Assist with behavior supports and follow behavior intervention plans under the direction of the teacher and campus administration.

Collect data, maintain records, and provide feedback to the teacher regarding student progress, behavior, and needs.

Prepare instructional materials, classroom supplies, visual supports, and learning activities as directed by the teacher.

Assist with adaptive equipment, classroom technology, and student materials as needed.

Communicate professionally with students, staff, and families while maintaining confidentiality.

Participate in staff development, campus meetings, and required trainings as assigned.

Follow district policies, campus procedures, safety protocols, and special education requirements.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

Based on the Royal ISD approved paraprofessional pay scale and years of experience.
