Description/Notes: This position is a dual contract position that involves teaching PE and or Health AND coaching one or more UIL sport based on campus needs. The Teacher Health PE Coach will plan and implement an instructional program and provide related educational services for students in assigned grade levels. Teachers will follow the FBISD Scope and Sequence and use the provided curriculum and resources for the subject taught. PE curriculum includes outdoor activities. The incumbent will manage student behavior, assess and evaluate student achievement, and modify instructional activities as required; carry out a variety of student monitoring and controls activities. Any teacher who coaches a UIL sport will also provide athletic services related to that athletic sport and the athletic program.
Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Classroom Instruction

Assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes. Continually assess student achievement and maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes
Plan and implement an instructional program which provides appropriate learning experiences, considering different learning styles and a range of learning curves and utilizing appropriate equipment
Manage the behavior of learners in instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process, and assists and participates in management of student behavior in other parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site
Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
Work in a self-contained, team, departmental, itinerant capacity, or at field work site, as assigned. As needed, request assistance of and works with resource personnel
Participate in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings
Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) progress
Continually communicate with students on instructional expectations and keeps them informed of their progress in meeting those expectations
Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
May assign work to and supervise instructional assistants, parent, and student volunteers
Ensure classroom/gym and/or instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are assessable to students and in good condition
May, as itinerant, serve at two or more schools on a regular basis. May make off-school site visits to monitor students, confer with employers, or site instructors
Support or participate in school wide student activities and social events and approved fund raising activities
As assigned or required, monitor student behavior in non-instructional areas and intervene to control and modify disruptive behavior, reporting to appropriate administrator as appropriate
Collaborate with other school professionals (counselors, librarians, cafeteria managers) to carry out school wide instructional or related activities
This position requires a dual contract for coaching a UIL sport. The following essential duties and responsibilities are applicable to coaching.
Perform coaching duties as assigned as well as other duties required for the smooth, efficient operation of a successful athletic program
Possess knowledge and adhere to UIL rules and regulations
Assist the Athletic Department with budget, schedules, care/use of facilities
Communicate with the Athletic Department on a regular basis
Implement and monitor the extracurricular code of conduct
Supervisory Responsibilities
None
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Health or a related field including course work in the subject/program to which assigned and in curriculum and instructional methodology
Teaching PE or Health for at least 2 years may substitute for the degree in the Kinesiology or Health field. Bachelor degree in another field will still be required.
Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment or has received statement of eligibility
Valid Driver's license with CDL Certification upon hire or will be required to obtain within 90 days of hire, failure to maintain could result in termination
Current CPR Certification state mandate, must obtain prior to first day of employment
Coaching experience preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of FBISD program of studies related to assignments and public school mission, goals, and organization
Demonstrated knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty(ies) to which assigned
Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent growth and development or, if applicable, adult learning theory
Demonstrated knowledge ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
Demonstrated knowledge to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students
Demonstrated knowledge of health and wellness
Strong oral and written communication skill; excellent human relations skills
Strong organizational and team-building skills
Proficiency in coaching as well as experience in designing daily lesson plans and practice plans is preferred

Additional Information
This position requires travel to various campuses and district meeting sites.
This position requires the employee to go outside for some units of instruction.
This position requires the employee to work evenings and weekends.
