PRIMARY PURPOSE:



The Executive Director – Transformation is a results-oriented leader responsible for accelerating academic outcomes in the district’s lowest-performing schools through high-impact, executive-level coaching of campus principals and assistant principals. This role is central to building a strong leadership pipeline, increasing instructional effectiveness, and ensuring sustained school transformation aligned to district and state accountability goals.



Reporting directly to the Chief of Transformation, the Executive Director provides intensive, outcomes-driven coaching and supervision to principals and assistant principals of D and F-rated schools. This position guides the design and implementation of evidence-based school improvement strategies, supports the development of high-performing leadership teams, and ensures alignment between professional learning, leadership development, and student achievement targets.



The Executive Director also directly supervises assigned professional learning staff to ensure training and development initiatives are strategically aligned to the needs of campuses in turnaround or targeted improvement.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Executive Coaching and Leadership Development

Serve as the primary executive coach for principals and assistant principals of campuses rated D or F by the Texas Accountability System
Develop individualized leadership development plans aligned to key turnaround competencies, including instructional leadership, systems thinking, culture building, and strategic planning
Facilitate frequent, structured coaching conversations that focus on real-time challenges, solution-oriented strategies, and measurable leadership outcomes
Monitor principal and assistant principal performance and leadership growth through ongoing feedback, performance data, and leadership walkthroughs
Set clear expectations, model effective leadership practices, and build principal capacity to lead independently with sustained results
Collaborate with the Chief of Transformation to evaluate principal readiness, recommend leadership actions, and inform succession planning
Effective Schools Framework Implementation

Facilitate the implementation of the Effective Schools Framework (ESF) across all assigned D and F campuses to ensure alignment with TEA's school improvement expectations.
Support principals and leadership teams in conducting ESF diagnostic self-assessments and engaging in root cause analysis to inform Campus Improvement Plans (CIP) and Targeted Improvement Plans (TIP).
Coach campus leaders on the implementation of ESF Essential Actions, with a specific focus on strong school leadership, strategic staffing, high-quality instructional materials, and effective data-driven instruction.
Collaborate with TEA-approved vendors, School Improvement Partners, and internal teams to ensure ESF-aligned supports are integrated into daily instructional leadership practices.
Monitor the fidelity of ESF action step implementation and provide feedback and adjustments based on school performance data and progress toward goals.
Lead professional learning opportunities focused on the Effective Schools Framework for campus and district leaders to build collective capacity and understanding.
School Improvement Planning and Accountability

Support campus leaders in developing, implementing, and progress-monitoring Campus Improvement Plans (CIP) and Targeted Improvement Plans (TIP)
Ensure improvement strategies are aligned to TEA expectations and supported by research-based best practices
Conduct progress-monitoring site visits and data reviews to assess impact, remove barriers, and adjust strategy
Partner with other district departments to align supports, resources, and interventions to the specific needs of each campus
Professional Learning and Capacity Building

Supervise the Facilitator – Professional Development, ensuring alignment between coaching, training, and campus needs
Analyze leadership trends and instructional gaps to design relevant, high-leverage professional development for campus leaders
Lead or co-facilitate targeted learning experiences, including leadership institutes, learning walks, PLCs, and principal cohorts
Model and promote adult learning best practices, ensuring professional development leads to sustained changes in leadership behavior and instructional quality
Data-Driven Leadership

Support principals and assistant principals in leading effective data meetings focused on identifying root causes and driving strategic action
Monitor campus performance data, track improvement trajectories, and escalate concerns proactively
Collaborate with Research, Accountability, and Testing to build data fluency and ensure alignment to district benchmarks and TEA metrics
Provide regular updates and performance reports to the Chief of Transformation and Superintendent’s Cabinet
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Collaborate across departments (e.g., Curriculum and Instruction, Multilingual Services, Special Services) to ensure cohesive and aligned school support
Represent the Chief of Transformation in key internal and external meetings, including TEA updates, community forums, and principal and assistant principal leadership sessions
Engage with families and community stakeholders to build trust, increase transparency, and create shared ownership of school improvement
Compliance and Risk Management

Monitor fidelity of implementation of programs, interventions, and grant-funded initiatives at assigned campuses
Identify and address risks related to performance, compliance, or state accountability sanctions in collaboration with the Chief of Transformation
Other Duties

Manage assigned budgets and resources aligned to turnaround goals
Support the recruitment and selection of high-impact principals and campus leaders
Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Transformation
WORKING CONDITIONS:



Physical Demands / Environmental Factors:
Frequent travel within the district and occasional state-level meetings. The usual and customary methods of performing the job require physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, and the use of a computer. Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling may be required.

Ability to manage multiple high-stakes priorities; analyze and act upon complex data; effectively support leaders under pressure; communicate with clarity and tact; and maintain emotional control under stress.

Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field from an accredited institution
Texas Mid-Management, Principal, or Superintendent Certification
Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in K-12 education
Preferred:

Doctorate in Education or related field
Experience as a principal or district leader in a D or F-rated campus or turnaround environment
Experience supervising professional development teams or facilitators
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

In-depth knowledge of school transformation strategies and continuous improvement models
Strong understanding of the Texas Effective Schools Framework (ESF) and state accountability systems
Expertise in Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum standards and instructional alignment
Familiarity with campus improvement planning processes, including Campus Improvement Plans (CIP) and Targeted Improvement Plans (TIP)
Knowledge of adult learning principles and professional development best practices
Awareness of grant-funded initiatives, compliance requirements, and risk management related to school improvement
Exceptional coaching and leadership development skills, particularly with principals and assistant principals in turnaround settings
Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills to lead high-impact professional learning and stakeholder engagement
Skilled in data analysis, root cause identification, and using data to drive strategic decisions
Ability to design, implement, and evaluate evidence-based school improvement strategies
Effective project and resource management skills, including budget oversight and staff supervision
Proficient in building collaborative relationships across diverse teams and external partners
Ability to provide executive-level coaching with a focus on instructional excellence and sustained leadership growth
Capacity to lead and influence large-scale school improvement initiatives aligned with district and state goals
Aptitude for managing multiple high-stakes priorities and maintaining professionalism under pressure
Ability to facilitate adult learning experiences that result in measurable improvements in leadership practice and student outcomes
Capability to monitor and adjust implementation fidelity of school improvement plans and related initiatives
Ability to engage families and community stakeholders to foster shared ownership of school transformation efforts
