Description/Notes: Primary Purpose:

Special Education Action Teacher / Behavior Interventionist Pearsall ISD Special Education Department Primary Purpose: The Special Education Action Teacher/Behavior Interventionist provides direct instructional and behavioral support to students with emotional, behavioral, and/or social difficulties that interfere with their academic success. This individual is responsible for implementing targeted behavioral interventions, collaborating with staff to support behavior plans, and ensuring a structured and supportive learning environment. The Action Teacher may serve students in a specialized setting or provide support within the general education environment as part of a campus-based intervention team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Strong understanding of behavior intervention strategies, functional behavior assessments (FBAs), and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)

- Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and state special education requirements

- Ability to collect and analyze behavioral and academic data - Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills

- Ability to de-escalate and support students in crisis - Skilled in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and families



Responsibilities and Duties:



**Instructional Support:**

- Provide targeted instruction in social-emotional learning and behavior regulation

- Deliver specially designed instruction aligned with students’ IEP goals

- Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify curriculum and implement accommodations

- Support re-entry plans for students returning from alternative placements or extended absences



**Behavioral Intervention:**

- Implement and monitor individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)

- Conduct informal behavioral observations and support FBAs

- Model and reinforce appropriate behavior using positive behavior support systems

- Intervene during behavioral crises using approved de-escalation techniques



**Collaboration and Documentation:**

- Collaborate with general education teachers, counselors, LSSPs, and administrators to support student behavior

- Communicate regularly with families regarding progress, incidents, and support strategies

- Maintain accurate records of interventions, progress monitoring, and crisis incidents

- Participate in ARD meetings and provide input for IEP development

Qualifications: Qualifications:

**Education/Certification:**

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s preferred)

- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education (EC-12)

- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or similar certification (or willingness to obtain)

Salary Range: 55,280 - 73,145
