Description/Notes: | Direct and manage assigned areas of instructional program and campus operations. Oversee assigned student activities and services. Implement procedures and coordinate the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) decision-making process. Ensure security and integrity of the LPAC process in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements. (PHS Assistant Principals: Co-Coordinate this responsibility with the PHS Testing Coordinator) Implement procedures and coordinate the identification of services and supports for students eligible under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act in accordance with applicable school, district, state regulations. (PHS Assistant Principals: Co-Coordinate this responsibility with the PHS Testing Coordinator) Implement procedures and coordinate the state and federal student assessment programs. Ensure security and integrity of testing materials and data in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements. (This responsibility exclusive to Elementary, ASH, & PCHS Assistant Principals) |
Qualifications: | Education/Certification: Master’s Degree in Educational Administration Valid Texas Administrator’s Certification or eligible for Intern or Probationary Principal certification Valid Texas Teaching Certification Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of campus operations Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to implement policy and procedures Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness Ability to assist in the management of budget and personnel Ability to organize and manage complex tasks simultaneously and independently to meet deadlines Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners Ability to interpret data and perform statistical analysis Ability to use student test data systems Knowledge of the state and federal testing program and accountability system Knowledge and experience working with diverse student groups and all student special population categories Knowledge of Emergent Bilingual (EB) Students/English Learners (EL) and the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) Knowledge of the LPAC decision-making process Knowledge of the Section 504 decision-making process Skill in working effectively as a team member to develop accommodation and intervention plans Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents or guardians, campus staff, and district staff Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience: Minimum of three years successful experience as a classroom teacher in public education, 5 years’ experience preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Management 1. Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate. Participate in program evaluation measures and make suggestions for improvement where needed. 2. Reinforce expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies and classroom management. 3. Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in decision-making process. School/Organizational Improvement 4. Take a leadership role in planning activities and implementing programs to ensure attainment of the school’s mission. 5. Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members. 6. Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records and track progress on campus performance objectives and indicators within the academic performance reporting system of Texas. Student Management 7. Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate. 8. Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. 9. Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers. 10. Ensure that students are supervised during noninstructional periods. Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) 11. Provide opportunities to guide teachers within the LPAC decision-making process. Determine needs for professional development. 12. Coordinate and facilitate the LPAC decision-making process, evaluations, periodic reviews, and all associated paperwork. 13. Make student assessment participation decisions for Emergent Bilingual (EB) Students/English Learners (EL) through the LPAC process based on the designated participation criteria and in line with all specified student assessment timelines. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act 14. Provide opportunities to guide teachers within the Section 504 decision-making process. Determine needs for professional development. 15. Coordinate and facilitate the Section 504 decision-making process, evaluations, periodic reviews, and all associated paperwork. 16. Make student assessment participation decisions for Section 504 student qualifiers through the Section 504 decision-making process based on the designated participation criteria and in line with all specified student assessment timelines. State and Federal Student Assessment (This responsibility exclusive to Elementary, ASH, & PCHS Assistant Principals) 17. Implement procedures for ensuring security and confidentiality of state and federal testing programs and other assessments on the assigned campus. Direct and oversee test implementation and monitor testing activities to ensure that procedures are followed, and deadlines met. 18. Provide timely support for testing administrators. 19. Consult with staff to provide appropriate testing accommodation for students receiving special services. 20. Identify, investigate, and address testing irregularities. Report discrepancies and disciplinary actions taken as required. 21. Consult with district staff to develop, administer, and interpret assessment guidelines and procedures. 22. Maintain and ensure integrity of testing data. Ensure all materials and data are submitted within established timelines. Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management 23. Oversee campus operations in principal’s absence. 24. Take a leadership role in planning and scheduling of daily school activities including the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules. 25. Oversee reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with staff to identify and address issues. 26. Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs. 27. Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment and monitor and maintain inventory in accordance with district procedures. 28. Coordinate operational support services such as transportation, custodial, and cafeteria to best meet campus needs. 29. Comply with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools. 30. Maintain confidentiality of information. |
