Description/Notes: | PRIMARY PURPOSE: Mentor teachers are actively involved in enhancing and supporting the career teachers’ teaching experience. Through the leadership team, they participate in analyzing student data and creating the TAP School Plan. With oversight and support from the master teacher, they help to lead cluster meetings and as a result, mentor teachers provide classroom-based follow-up and extensive feedback on career teachers’ instructional practices. With the input and guidance of the master teacher, mentor teachers plan for instruction in partnership with other mentor teachers and career teachers. Mentor teachers also engage in self- and team-directed professional development activities. Mentor teachers are charged with helping master teachers to implement the TAP School Plan SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Demonstrate success in designing units of instruction, implementing best instructional practices, and classroom management practices. Excellent communication skills and an understanding of how to facilitate growth in students and adults Positive rapport with students, teachers, and staff MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Attend and prepare for leadership team meetings Lead staff development for campus and district employees With the oversight of the Master Teacher, plan and facilitate group meetings during cluster meetings and provide appropriate follow up Inform and promote campus activities in and among the community Assist with daily school responsibilities (such as arrival/dismissal, lunch) Attend professional development and participate in all TAP training Help develop School Plan utilizing the TAP processes Guides and reviews teachers’ Individual Growth Plans Model best teaching practices by team-teaching with colleagues, deliver model lessons in Cluster, develop and support curriculum implementation Observe and provide peer assistance and coaching toward meeting teachers’ Individual Growth Plan goals Mentor, guide and support career teachers Evaluate lessons and conduct pre- and post- conferences Evaluate teacher performance by using the TAP Rubric and conduct follow-up teacher conferences as a certified TAP evaluator Analyze school-wide student data as the basis for helping develop a school plan Support the Master Teacher in researching and field testing, within the school, appropriate strategies that target the identified area of student need Attend professional development meetings Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor SUPERVISES: This position will not directly supervise any employees. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment. However, this position requires evaluating teacher performance and providing feedback. WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and climb stairs. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress, and occasionally work prolonged and/or irregular hours. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. The employee must be able to use appropriate restraint techniques in the event it is necessary to keep student(s) safe. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The work environment is a standard office setting including standard office equipment (fax, copier, phone, computer, 10-key, etc.). |
Qualifications: | PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years of successful teaching experience preferred Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university Valid Texas teaching certificate Master’s preferred Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check prior to starting employment. Non-refundable fee paid by employee. |
Salary Range: | Compensation: Base Teacher Salary as determined by the compensation plan $4,000 Stipend Compensation for attending (7) days of required summer training at the published daily rate. This position is contingent upon successful completion of required training. |
