Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Coordinate with campuses to ensure character education programming is specific to Sherman, aligned with District goals and values, and consistently implemented throughout the District. Implement and oversee districtwide mentoring program by connecting community partners with schools and students to support and encourage character development and self-worth. Implement and oversee parenting education curriculum for families in need of support, encouragement, and accountability.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Build and implement character education programming that is specific to Sherman, aligned with District goals and values, and consistently implemented throughout the District.
2. Prepare and deliver appropriate character lessons that embrace student diversity.
3. Train staff and model the delivery of character lessons
4. Present character lessons according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
5. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students.
6. Conduct a review of the current character education programming at all levels and propose and deliver an aligned approach/program for future use.
7. Work cooperatively with teachers, counselors, and administrators on character education objectives.
8. Plan and teach relevant character education lessons to improve the behavior and overall knowledge of character education for students all programs, particularly within our Disciplinary Alternative Education Program.
9. Help students analyze and improve student behavior choices, study methods and habits.
10. Support extra and co-curricular activities as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent.
11. Implement and oversee districtwide mentoring program by connecting community partners with schools and students to support and encourage character development and self-worth.
12. Implement and oversee parenting education curriculum for families designated in need of additional support, encouragement, and accountability.
13. Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
14. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
15. Support safety and security initiatives across the District and at every level.
16. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
17. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
18. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
19. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
20. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
21. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
22. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
23. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
24. Lead the Districts Student Health and Advisory Committee (SHAC).
25. Provide timely analysis to support data-driven decisions for complex projects.
26. Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional and responsible.
27. Other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office and instructional equipment including personal computer and peripherals.

Qualifications: Education/Certification:
Bachelors degree; Masters degree from an approved educational institution preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of character development programming
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strong communication skills with students in both small and large group settings
Strong public speaking skills
Ability to connect with all stakeholders

Experience:
Three or more years of successful experience with adolescent students, public school setting preferred
