Description/Notes: | The Mercedes ISD Board of Trustees is seeking a proven educational leader to serve as superintendent of the Mercedes Independent School District. The candidate should possess knowledge of instruction, administration and school finance. The district serves the unincorporated communities of Heidelberg, Indian Hills, and Relampago. The district is located in the Rio Grande Valley and offers easy access to major universities, medical schools, world class hospitals, outdoor recreation and it is a short distance from beautiful Padre Island. Mercedes ISD is located in one of the oldest towns in the Rio Grande Valley and is traditionally referred to as the Queen City of the Valley. Centrally located, the district has access to well-known attractions, such as the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show & Rodeo, Texas Street Fests, and music festivals. In addition, the city is highly recognized for the most unique public art project in the state of Texas, which is a display of handcrafted 5 12 foot tall cowboy boots throughout the city. These were created to represent the history of the boot-making industry in the city. The community prides itself on the local area attractions and works with the district to promote community involvement. With a population of 16,561 for Mercedes, the district serves approximately 4,400 students through various programs that include the T-STEM Academy, the Early College Academy and the Hidalgo County Head-Start Program. Mercedes is made up of nine schools, four elementary campuses, two middle schools, one comprehensive high school and two campuses of choice. All of our campuses provide a rich, learning experience supported by an after- school program focused on academic enrichment activities, college and career readiness, and parental support. Mercedes ISD provides a strong Academic and Career Technical Education through partnerships with local Institutes of Higher Education, as well as co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to provide a well-rounded education for all students. Additionally, the Districts Early College Academy has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School. |
Qualifications: | Candidates must have or be eligible for Texas certification. The Mercedes ISD School Board would like the new superintendent to begin work no later than October 3, 2022. The Mercedes ISD School Board is conducting a confidential search. All application materials will remain confidential. Only the name of the Lone Finalist will be released. |
