| Description/Notes: | MISSION: The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will improve outcomes for all public-school students in the state by providing leadership, guidance, and support to school systems. POSITION OVERVIEW: In order to advance the mission of TEA of improving outcomes for all public-school students, the Charter School Portfolio Coordinator will support the operations and growth of high-quality charter schools in the states charter school portfolio by becoming knowledgeable on all aspects of a charter portfolio including the models, leaders, financial, academic and sector performance. This role performs advanced consultative and technical work related to an agency education program and works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The Charter School Portfolio Coordinator reports to the Charter Portfolio Management Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Gain expert knowledge regarding the academic models, academic and financial performance, leadership teams, and goals/objectives of a subset of the Texas charter school sector. Administer thoughtful and rigorous processes to evaluate amendments related to growth and operations. Process expedited and discretionary renewal petitions and make recommendations based on performance data according to statute and rule. Make recommendations regarding charter operator requests. Collaborate with colleagues to make recommendations about renewal, revocation and other accountability or monitoring decisions for a subset of Texas charter school operators. |
| Qualifications: | MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. Experience: At least 4 years of experience in public education. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Share the belief that all Texas students can achieve at high levels and are able to succeed in college, career, or the military. A Texas teaching or mid-management certification or law degree preferred. Understanding of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to public education, including both the Texas Education Code and Texas Administrative Code. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to gather, assemble, and evaluate factual data and prepare clear and concise reports and exhibits using Microsoft Office. Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions. Strong background in curriculum, specifically, knowledge of general education,special education, bilingual/ESL education, gifted and talented education, early childhood education, as well as high school graduation requirements. Detail oriented with strong prioritization, time management, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet deadlines. Documented experience presenting in formal settings and fielding questions. Strong ability and desire to gain expert-level knowledge of the charter school program and keep apprised of national, charter-authorizing trends. A professional demeanor and positive attitude to foster effective working relationships with internal and external constituents. A desire to self-reflect, give/receive feedback, and continuously improve.
