Description/Notes: Primary Purpose:
Connally ISD is seeking an innovative, dynamic instructor for its Diesel and Heavy Equipment program of study. This staff member will have the opportunity to participate in developing this new program in partnership with the District and a prominent community business partner. The instructor will:
Provide students with appropriate hands-on learning activities and experiences in diesel mechanics to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
Direct and manage the Diesel Equipment Technology laboratory/shop area.
Direct and manage student internship programs.
Enable students to develop competencies and skills needed to acquire industry-based certifications, enroll in dual credit coursework, and secure future employment.
Qualifications:
Certification:
PreferredPossess or be able to acquire a valid Texas teaching certificate in: Trade and Industrial Education, Grades 6-12; Trade and Industrial Education, Grades 8-12; or Vocational Trades and Industry.
Required (at minimum)Related training and work experience for a certification waiver under the Connally ISD District of Innovation (DOI) Plan.

Education and Work Experience:
Bachelors degree with two years of full-time wage-earning experience in the diesel/heavy equipment industry within the past ten years; OR
Associates degree with two years of full-time wage-earning experience in the diesel/heavy equipment industry within the past ten years; OR
High school diploma or equivalent with five years of full-time wage-earning experience in the diesel/heavy equipment industry within the past ten years.

Licensure:
Current licensure by a state or nationally recognized accrediting agency for occupations in Diesel Equipment Technology, a passing score on an appropriate NOCTI exam, or eligible military experience.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of general automotive technologies, specialized diesel equipment maintenance and repair, including engines
Knowledge of required skills and procedures for students to earn state-recognized certifications
General knowledge of teaching and training techniques
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior in a unique job-oriented setting
Ability to oversee student field experiences in work-based learning opportunities
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
Program Responsibilities
Manage the daily operation of the assigned subject area business laboratory.
Comply with federal, state, and local regulations related to occupational area assigned.
May calculate, compile, and record cash receipts and maintain complete and systematic records of financial transactions that result from operation of simulated businesses. Ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
Establish and oversee community internship programs that provide on-the-job training opportunities for students.
Liaison with community business and industry partners as needed to build and maintain ongoing, developmentally appropriate student Work-Based Learning experiences.
Student Growth and Development
Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
Present a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Communication
Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Professional Growth and Development
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other
Comply with federal, state, and local regulations related to the occupational area assigned.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct the work of any assigned instructional aide(s).
Direct, monitor, and supervise students in Work-Based Learning settings.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; specialized training and diagnostic equipment
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment
Environment: Work inside, may work inside and outside; regular exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
