Royal Junior High School serves students in a growing community and is seeking a dedicated, student-centered ESL Instructional Aide to support emergent bilingual students and classroom instruction.

Description/Notes

Royal Junior High School is seeking a dependable and student-focused ESL Instructional Aide to assist teachers in supporting students receiving English as a Second Language services. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with teachers, campus staff, students, and families to help emergent bilingual students access instruction, build English language skills, and experience academic success.

The ESL Instructional Aide will provide instructional support, small-group assistance, classroom support, and student supervision under the direction of certified staff.

Primary Purpose

Assist certified teachers in providing instructional support to emergent bilingual students. Support students as they develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English while accessing grade-level content and participating successfully in the classroom environment.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED required
Educational Aide certification required or ability to obtain
Paraprofessional requirements as outlined by the district and state
Bilingual skills preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work effectively with emergent bilingual students
Ability to assist with instructional activities and classroom routines
Ability to support students in listening, speaking, reading, and writing development
Ability to follow teacher directions and implement instructional supports
Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families
Strong patience, flexibility, organization, and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Experience:
Experience working with children preferred
Experience working with emergent bilingual or ESL students preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Assist teachers with instructional activities designed to support emergent bilingual students.

Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, writing skills, and language acquisition.

Support students in understanding classroom assignments, directions, academic vocabulary, and instructional materials.

Assist with implementation of accommodations, language supports, and instructional strategies under the direction of certified staff.

Help prepare instructional materials, visual supports, classroom resources, and learning activities.

Support students during classroom instruction, intervention, assessments, and other academic activities as assigned.

Monitor and assist students in the classroom, hallway, cafeteria, arrival, dismissal, and other school settings as assigned.

Collaborate with teachers and campus staff to support student progress and classroom expectations.

Provide feedback to teachers regarding student participation, progress, and needs.

Assist with family communication and translation support when appropriate and as directed by campus administration.

Support a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for all students.

Participate in staff development, campus meetings, and required trainings as assigned.

Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and staff information.

Follow district policies, campus procedures, safety protocols, and program expectations.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

Based on the Royal ISD approved paraprofessional pay scale and years of experience.
