Royal Junior High School serves students in a growing community and is seeking a dedicated, student-centered ELAR Teacher to support students’ growth in reading, writing, communication, and critical thinking.

Description/Notes

Royal Junior High School is seeking a committed English Language Arts and Reading Teacher to provide engaging, standards-aligned instruction for junior high students. The ideal candidate will create a positive classroom environment, build strong relationships with students and families, and use effective instructional practices to support literacy development and academic success.

The ELAR Teacher will plan and deliver high-quality instruction, monitor student progress, use data to guide instruction, and collaborate with campus and district staff to support student achievement.

Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in English Language Arts and Reading designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Support students in developing reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, communication, research, and critical-thinking skills.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate ELAR certification
ESL certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of English Language Arts and Reading curriculum and instruction
Knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of effective literacy strategies, reading comprehension, writing instruction, and vocabulary development
Ability to use data to plan instruction, monitor student progress, and support intervention
Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners
Strong classroom management, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community

Experience:
Successful student teaching or approved internship required
Teaching experience at the junior high or middle school level preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Provide instruction in English Language Arts and Reading that supports student mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.

Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill curriculum requirements and reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and needs.

Use effective literacy strategies to support students in reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, communication, research, and critical thinking.

Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and academic growth.

Use assessment data, student work, and classroom observations to monitor progress and adjust instruction.

Provide intervention, reteaching, enrichment, and differentiated support based on student needs.

Collaborate with campus administrators, instructional coaches, special education staff, multilingual support staff, and other teachers to support student achievement.

Communicate regularly and professionally with students, parents, staff, and administrators regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and academic needs.

Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, student progress, and required documentation.

Prepare students for district and state assessments through effective instruction, review, intervention, and progress monitoring.

Participate in professional learning communities, staff meetings, professional development, and campus/district events.

Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a safe and productive learning environment.

Follow district policies, campus procedures, curriculum expectations, and safety protocols.

Maintain confidentiality of student information.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

Based on the Royal ISD approved teacher pay scale and years of experience.
