Royal Junior High School serves students in a growing community and is seeking a dedicated, student-centered CTE Construction/Trades Teacher to introduce students to career and technical education pathways, hands-on learning, and real-world trade skills.

Description/Notes

Royal Junior High School is seeking a committed CTE Construction/Trades Teacher to provide students with engaging instruction in construction, trades, safety, tools, employability skills, and career exploration. The ideal candidate will create a structured, safe, and hands-on learning environment that helps students build foundational knowledge and interest in construction and skilled trades.

The CTE Construction/Trades Teacher will support student learning through project-based instruction, industry-aligned activities, classroom and lab safety expectations, and collaboration with campus and district CTE staff.

Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in construction and trades designed to help them develop foundational technical skills, career awareness, problem-solving abilities, and workplace readiness. Prepare students for future success in high school CTE pathways, industry-based learning opportunities, and postsecondary career options.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate in an appropriate CTE area preferred
Eligible for or willing to obtain appropriate Texas CTE certification, if applicable
Industry experience in construction, skilled trades, architecture, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, welding, or a related field preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of construction, skilled trades, tools, equipment, materials, and safety practices
Knowledge of CTE curriculum, career exploration, and project-based learning
Ability to provide hands-on instruction in a safe and structured environment
Ability to manage classroom and lab settings effectively
Ability to teach employability skills, workplace expectations, and career readiness
Ability to maintain equipment, materials, inventory, and safety procedures
Strong classroom management, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community partners

Experience:
Successful student teaching, approved internship, or related industry experience required
Experience working with middle school or junior high students preferred
Experience in construction, trades, or related industry preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Provide instruction in construction, trades, safety, tools, materials, employability skills, and career exploration.

Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill curriculum requirements and support student growth in CTE knowledge and skills.

Create a safe, organized, and engaging classroom and lab environment for hands-on learning.

Teach and reinforce proper safety procedures for tools, equipment, materials, classroom activities, and project-based learning.

Provide students with opportunities to explore construction and skilled trades career pathways.

Support student development of problem-solving, teamwork, communication, technical, and workplace readiness skills.

Use a variety of instructional strategies, demonstrations, projects, and assessments to meet student needs.

Monitor and assess student progress, provide feedback, and maintain accurate records.

Manage and maintain classroom tools, equipment, instructional materials, supplies, and inventory.

Collaborate with campus administration, district CTE staff, high school CTE programs, and community partners to support program alignment and student opportunities.

Communicate regularly and professionally with students, parents, staff, and administrators regarding student progress and program expectations.

Support recruitment, retention, and growth of CTE programs and student interest in construction/trades pathways.

Attend required staff meetings, professional development, CTE meetings, and campus/district events.

Comply with district policies, campus procedures, state requirements, safety expectations, and applicable CTE guidelines.

Maintain confidentiality of student information.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

Based on the Royal ISD approved teacher pay scale and years of experience.
