| Description/Notes: | Position Summary Direct the operation of the school library/media center. Provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems. Serve as a teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to ensure that the library/media center is involved in the school's instructional programs. Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities Instruction Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students and other library users to help them locate resources and use research techniques. Serve as an information resource for users of library/media center materials. Work with teachers to convey the appropriate use of materials and help schedule materials for classroom instructional use. Encourage the proper use of video programming and other media for educational purposes. Design, develop, and present staff development for teachers on the availability and use of campus and district learning resources. Library Programs Plan and implement an effective school library program that meets identified needs and create a library/media center environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity level and interests. Make recommendations for acquisitions and manage the processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of library/media resources. Assist teachers in the preparation of bibliographies and curriculum guides. Develop and maintain up-to-date resource files, including instructional program schedules and other community resources. Use appropriate and practical techniques to encourage community and parent involvement. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library/media center program and make changes based on the findings. Classroom Management and Organization Create a learning environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and other documents. Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Professional Growth and Development/Other Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Compile budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. Maintain confidentiality. Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s), clerical, student aides, and volunteers. Working Conditions Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office and instructional equipment including personal computer and peripherals. Posture: Prolonged standing, frequent walking, sitting; occasional bending/stooping, kneeling, squatting, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse. Occasional reaching. Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment. Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise. Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions and prolonged or irregular hours. | Qualifications: | Minimum Requirements Master's degree from an accredited college or university (for individuals certified after January 23, 2001). Valid Texas school librarian certificate or endorsement. Minimum three (3) years of teaching experience. Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the candidate. Preferred Qualifications Previous k-12 school librarian experience.
