| Description/Notes: | To provide oversight and direction for improving the special education evaluation process and the academic and functional specially designed instruction for students receiving special education and related services through working collaboratively with staff, parents, and the community. Oversee departmental efforts in developing operational procedures and complying with federal, state, and local requirements. Support District and campus administrators and staff in promoting an inclusive environment while ensuring the provision of a free and appropriate public education. |
| Qualifications: | Education/Certification: Master’s degree Valid Texas teacher’s certificate in Special Education or license in related field Valid Texas certificate in Supervision, Administration, Principal, and/or mid-Management Administration or similar administrative experience Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of best practices for special education evaluation, services, and programming for students from EC to 18+ Knowledge of legal requirements related to special education programming Ability to evaluate special education programs, services, and effectiveness of service providers Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills Ability to effectively collaborate across departments to build District capacity to understand and support specific needs of or implications to Individualized Education Plan (IEP) entitled students Ability to resolve conflict and effectively manage complex situations Ability to interpret policy and procedures Ability to interpret data and its implications for the education of students receiving special education services Ability to effectively manage budget and personnel Experience: Minimum of three years of successful experience as a teacher or professional in special education or related field Minimum of three years of successful educational administrative experience |
