EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors Degree
Five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience



CERTIFICATION:

Valid Texas Teaching Certification by the State Board for Educator Certification

Thirty (30) hours of state mandated Gifted and Talented foundational training



High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.



PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY:
Ensure state compliance of gifted program, screen and test all secondary program nominees, and oversee elementary testing. Coordinate the Gifted/Talented (G/T) curriculum for elementary four core areas, secondary G/T Interdisciplinary Studies Courses, and Math and English content areas. Train and certify G/T Teachers, Administrators, and Counselors in assessing student needs, and providing curriculum and instruction for G/T students.



ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Creates the District G/T Handbook K-12; provides all program forms; maintains records of G/T hours for all G/T teachers, administrators and counselors; records all G/T parent meetings; maintains test records and student G/T cumulative records; supervises and participates in selection committees for student program certification; conducts parent surveys; represents the District during DEIC, EEOC, Title I, and other visits that require information about G/T students, programs, or procedures.
2. Makes budget decisions concerning expenditures of G/T funds in the areas of teacher training, curriculum needs, student textbooks, testing materials and student needs.
3. Orders tests; provides in-depth training in the administration and evaluation of tests; sets testing schedules and deadlines; oversees universal screening, tests elementary and secondary students as needed; handles appeals on G/T testing by conferencing with parents, and coordinates transfer of test records to other districts.
4. Researches and evaluates strategies, current practices and curriculum advances for continuous improvement of the North East Independent School District (NEISD) G/T program ensuring high quality; facilitates teacher training; oversees the inventory and transfer of materials; revises curriculum guides for all G/T programs K-12.
5. Provides professional development to campus and district-level educators to ensure enrichment for all students including New Teacher Orientation, Instructional Leadership week, and Curriculum Day prior to the start of each school year, and throughout the year in collaboration with K-12 teams.
6. Demonstrates G/T strategies and curriculum by teaching classes as teachers observe; conducts teacher classroom observations to strengthen the G/T program in consultation with campus leaders and teachers.
7. Represents NEISD on Region 20 G/T Advisory Board and attends all board meetings and G/T Coordinators' meetings.
8. Represents NEISD G/T at local, state, and national meetings.
9. Coordinates and communicates professional development opportunities for NEISD G/T teachers, principals, counselors, Curriculum and Instruction leaders and teams; keeps records of attendees and G/T hours.
10. Represents NEISD at State G/T Conferences - Presents, attends, coordinates sessions, and facilitates NEISD participants, ensuring information and learning is shared across NEISD.
11. Acts as contact for all campus and/or parent G/T questions and considerations, providing guidance on GT program services.
12. Collaborates across departments to ensure district alignment and improvement efforts K-12.
13. Regularly required to drive personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks.
14. Maintains confidentiality of information.
15. Reports to work every day.
16. Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents
• Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
• Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style
• Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
• Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
• Valid Texas Driver’s License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District
