Description/Notes: | Position: Chief/Superintendent LT Assignment: Chief Technology Officer Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Reports to: Superintendent Pay Grade: AP692/240 days Dept./Campus: Technology Date Revised: Summer 2025 Primary Purpose: Provide leadership to maintain a world class technology infrastructure that facilitates student learning. This individual will be responsible for providing leadership in the following areas: Educational/Instructional Technology, Technical Information Services and Networking/Technical Services. Lead and direct the design of the technological infrastructure of the district, including network operations, network operating systems and the network operations center; maintenance of the Wide Area Network; and building level Local Area Networks. Lead the selection and approval process for software, including management software. Create a system that ensures that the network and district computing devices are secure. Provide leadership in selecting digital resources and providing access to students and staff to facilitate work and engaged learning. Provide leadership in building robust business information systems, telecommunications support, student information systems, technical support, and best practices for technology acquisitions, including computers and related support systems. Qualifications: Minimum Education/Certification: • Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems/School Business Operations/Business Administration/ Education Administration preferred • Certified Educational Technology Leader (CETL) certification preferred or willing to attain Special Knowledge/Skills/Experience: • Five years of senior management/technology experience • Leadership experience in a large business organization or urban/suburban school district, preferred • Ability to implement systematic technology improvements and transform ideas into actions • Demonstrated knowledge of evaluation, selection, and implementation software solutions to meet business needs • Demonstrated knowledge in implementing major software systems • Demonstrated knowledge of database design and architecture • Collaborate with Instructional/Educational Technology and with others to ensure that the technology information systems services and resources are aligned with and supportive of the educational needs, goals, and vision of the district • Develop a strategy and identify appropriate funding to establish both short range and long-range plans for technical support, repairs, and training • Plan, prepare, and present all presentations and supporting documentation for the Board of Trustees as it relates to Technology specific topics. • Maintain state of the art knowledge of technology development and provide for planning and development in accordance with the District Technology Plan and current trends • Create and effectively administer the department budget • Develop strategies for providing excellent technical support to campuses • Assess, direct, and monitor the design and configuration of the WAN/LAN networks to improve efficiency, support expansion and project future equipment costs; establish schematics for District facility, for all equipment, wiring and other hardware currently in use and planned • Hire, direct, motivate, and evaluate qualified staff to direct the development and maintenance of systems, programs and networks for management and instructional support • Work with the District Technology Advisory Council (TAC)to establish technology hardware and software minimum standards and guidelines for the selection and implementation of technology resources district wide to ensure efficiency and effectiveness • Assist in implementation and annual evaluation of educational technology support models district wide in collaboration with other departments and schools • Manage, direct, and assign priorities and personnel to major projects to ensure attainment of district and department goals and objectives • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of all computer hardware throughout the district • Remain current in the information management and technology services through organizational membership, conference attendance, analysis of current trends and current literature review • Use information provided through informal and formal assessment data to improve personal and professional skills and knowledge • Participate in activities that promote district and community relations • Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal goals • Submit and make presentations at professional conferences and workshops Major Responsibilities and Duties: • Follow the direction established by the Superintendent and Board of Trustees • Anticipate and manage change through proactive planning and flexibility in thought and action • Provide leadership in addressing the challenges facing the profession • Prepare, maintain, and present all information, reports, and records as required • Collaborate with other personnel in a collegial, supportive manner • Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action • Demonstrate integrity and ethics • Display proficient levels of technology applications • Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities • Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings • Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor • Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication • Perform other duties and accepting other responsibilities as assigned Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: • Maintain emotional control under stress • Frequent district wide travel and occasional statewide travel • Occasional prolonged and irregular hours • Climbing, Bending, Pushing, Lifting, Hearing, Reaching, Seeing, Speaking, Standing, Walking. • Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals OTHER: All employees are to follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
