Description/Notes: | Position Summary: The Deputy Superintendent provides strategic oversight and direction for several district-wide divisions, with a primary emphasis on Human Resources. This role ensures effective coordination across departments and supports the Superintendent in all aspects of administrative decision-making. The Deputy Superintendent also serves as a liaison between the Superintendent, the Board of Trustees, and district leadership to ensure alignment and clear communication. Qualifications: • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Public Administration, Human Resources, or related field (Doctorate preferred). • Valid administrative certification as required by the state. • Demonstrated ability to manage complex operations and lead organizational change. • In-depth understanding of education systems, employment law, and HR best practices. • Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills. • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and maintain a collaborative leadership style. Experience: • Minimum of three (3) years central office executive leadership experience • Campus principal experience preferred Salary and Benefits: • Negotiable Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Serve as Acting Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent. • Support the Superintendent in all aspects of administrative decision-making and policy implementation. • Provide leadership, supervision, and strategic direction for administrative departments across the district, with primary responsibility for Human Resources. • Lead efforts to recruit, retain, and develop high-quality staff through comprehensive HR programs, including personnel management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, professional development, and compliance. • Oversee the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and systems to ensure effective and efficient operations. • Serve as a liaison between the Superintendent and the Board of Trustees as directed. • Collaborate with other district leaders to ensure administrative services align with and support instructional goals. • Analyze operational data and trends to inform strategic planning and continuous improvement. • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. • Represent the Superintendent and the district in community, governmental, and professional settings. Major Responsibilities and Duties: District Management 1. Provide organizational leadership to assigned departments as directed by the Superintendent. 2. Assist the Superintendent in the daily operation of the school district. 3. Develop, recommend, implement, and evaluate long-range plans and projects as directed. 4. Oversee budget preparation for assigned departments and schools; provide recommendations to the Superintendent. 5. Oversee student enrollment forecasting and personnel needs; provide data-informed recommendations. Personnel Management 16. Conduct staff misconduct investigations as assigned. 17. Oversee personnel assignment, reassignment, and contract administration. 18. Lead the evaluation and supervision of department staff, including hiring and disciplinary recommendations. 19. Develop training and improvement plans to support staff effectiveness and department goals. Communication and Community Relations 20. Promote collaboration and effective communication among departments, campuses, and the community. 21. Maintain high visibility within the school district and local community. 22. Monitor and respond to district and community needs with appropriate initiatives. 23. Represent the Superintendent and district at school, civic, and government functions. Other Duties 25. Attend Board meetings and deliver presentations when requested. 26. Comply with all applicable laws, policies, and regulations. 27. Compile, maintain, and present reports and records as required. 28. Follow all district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding the hiring and dismissal of assigned personnel. Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands and Environmental Factors • Maintain emotional control under stress. • Work with frequent interruptions. • Work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays. • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. • Occasional lifting and carrying (15–44 lbs); may include instructional materials and office equipment. • Frequent travel within district; occasional travel outside district or state. • Extended computer use; repetitive hand motion. • Exposure to various indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, including: Temperature and humidity extremes Noise and lighting variations Biological hazards (e.g., communicable diseases) Uneven surfaces and moving vehicles |
