Qualifications: | Qualifications: Education/Certification: High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree – preferred • Texas Peace Officer license issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) New Chief: o Must take 80 hours of New Chief's Training: o New Chief Development Program (#3780 - does not include any ALERRT training hours) AND o Texas Police Chief Leadership Series (#3740) at Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT) within 2 years of first appointment as a Texas Chief of Police. • Chief's Continuing Education: o Must complete the Texas Police Chief Leadership Series (#3740) each unit thereafter. The course includes 8 hours of ALERRT training. Will be required to complete an additional 8 hours of ALERRT training to meet the 16-hour legislative requirement o Valid Texas driver’s license Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to manage budget and personnel Knowledge of overall operations of a police department Knowledge of criminal investigations, police report writing, and criminal law Training and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms and handcuffs Bondable as required by Texas Education Code §37.081(h) Strong communication, public relations, organizational, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of National Incident Management System (NIMS) Knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS) Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration and office management. Comprehensive knowledge of state and local governmental organization, operation, and resources. Ability to assemble, correlate, and analyze facts related to safety issues. Ability to prepare technical reports. Ability to communicate effectively and present information to professionals, other interested groups, and/or individuals. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, staff, public officials, civic and community groups, and the general public. Experience: Five (5) years of law enforcement experience in supervisory or command capacity and experience in working in school safety issues |
Salary Range: | $125,349 – $151,938 |
