Primary Purpose:
Provide curriculum leadership and support classroom teachers to ensure an aligned and articulated instructional program in literacy to increase teacher performance and student achievement.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional and Program Management

Work cooperatively with directors and campus principals in supporting teachers in the instructional programs in literacy.
Attend all literacy professional learning with teachers and support them in implementing best practices learned in training through continued study in PLCs, planning, and coaching cycles.
Assist in the review, development, and revision of subject area programs and related curriculum documents and materials, including curriculum guides, course outlines, and teaching plans.
Assist in development of assessments of literacy, analyze relevant assessment data, and make recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
Make recommendations for the ordering and use of departmental instructional aids and materials for literacy in alignment with district approach to teaching literacy.
Assist in the evaluation of resources and program effectiveness for literacy based on evaluative findings (including student achievement data) and recommend changes as needed.
Maintain a resource library of publications, supplementary materials, and supplies relevant to literacy.
Participate in the development and preparation of the budget for supplies, equipment, and facilities in literacy.

Staff Development

Plan and provide staff development in individual and/or group settings for teachers and staff in literacy.
Demonstrate knowledge of research-based instructional strategies that engage all students. Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in literacy.
Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation. Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in classroom. Assist teachers with specific classroom activities.
Guide classroom teachers in the development and delivery of rigorous, differentiated lessons and appropriate assessments. Assist teachers with designing instruction based on assessment data and professional learning.
Serve as a resource for instructional materials, lesson ideas, motivational techniques, classroom management strategies, Internet links and technology options.

Other

Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers. Provide encouragement and emotional support and encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers.
Manage time and schedule flexibility that maximizes teacher schedules and learning.
Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.
Possess an understanding of when to contact administrators regarding issues of safety/ethics involving students in the classroom(s) observed.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Adhere to all district and building health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan and Building Crisis Plan.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Valid Texas teaching certificate relevant to assignment
Master’s degree from accredited university preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
Thorough knowledge of assigned subject matter
Ability to interpret data and evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness
Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners in literacy
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


Experience:
3-5 years of successful teaching experience in literacy as indicated by student achievement data
Leadership experience such as grade level chair, lead teacher, curriculum writer, creating/presenting professional learning in literacy
Experience teaching primary grades (K-2) and intermediate grades (3-5) preferred
Extensive professional learning in literacy preferred
Instructional coach experience preferred
Salary Range: Days: 197 days annually
Salary: $57,957 - $72,843; commensurate with experience
