Description/Notes: | Primary Purpose: The high school head football coach is responsible for the leadership of the high school and middle school football athletic program. The head football coach will collaborate with the assistant coaches in developing competitive interscholastic football teams within their program. The head football coach will contribute to the educational program and to the growth of students involved in athletics. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree Valid Texas teaching certificate Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of coaching techniques, strategies, and procedures Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules and regulations Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes. Ability to interpret data. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience as a football coach Head coaching experience in a high school football program preferred. Coaching experience as an Offensive/Defensive Coordinator or as a First Assistant in a varsity high school football program preferred. Major Responsibilities and Duties: Program Planning and Instruction Organize and implement football program for all levels 7-12. 2.. Instruct student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes. Organize and implement instruction that will lead student-athletes to the formulation of pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Target areas for improvement within the sport and implement plan for continual improvement. 5. Responsible for assigning duties to assistant coaches within your sport. 6. Make sound recommendations for sport improvement to the Director of Athletics 7. Maintain a sense of cooperation and harmony between all phases of the athletic program. Program Management Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular activity participation. Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities. Work with athletic director to schedule football competitions and coordinate arrangements for any necessary playoff games. Ensure compliance with all UIL rules. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the football program and make recommendations for changes based on findings. Evaluations of assistant coaches assigned to football. Student Management Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions both at-home and on out-of-town trips. Instruct and advise students on National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations regarding academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation. 18. Responsible for enforcement of district student management policies 19.Responsible for the dissemination of expectations to student-athletes and parents Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences on vital issues with parents, students, teachers, and coaches. Assist the athletic trainer in administering policies and treatment for injuries and injury prevention. Athletic Events Develop and implement a well-organized practice and game plan. Assist the Athletic Office in developing schedules for all levels within your sport. Secure game officials for all competitive games/matches at all levels within your sport. Responsible for timely requests for travel for all levels within your sport. Responsible for the use, care, and maintenance of athletic facilities Administration Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required by Athletic Department and Temple ISD. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Monitor and evaluate sub-varsity programs/coaches of assigned sports. Monitor middle school alignment of assigned sports, if applicable Compile a statement of needs, equipment, supplies, and maintenance for the upcoming school year Prepare and keep current an inventory of all equipment, fixtures, and properties within your sport Compile a list budgetary needs for staff development, team travel, scouting, and tournament expenses for the upcoming year Assign coaches to supervise care and upkeep of all sport equipment Responsible for submitting a list to the Athletic Office of all athletes eligible to receive a letter award in accordance with department policy Community Relations 36. Assist the Athletic Office in developing a public relations program designed to keep patrons informed and interested in the programs and accomplishments of the athletic program. Assist in the interviewing and hiring process for new coaches of assigned sports. . Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Athletic equipment, standard office equipment including computer and peripherals and other instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED) Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent driving Lifting: Frequently light lifting (less than15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds) Environment: Work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather) and inside; frequent exposure to noise; frequent districtwide and statewide travel Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent prolonged and irregular hours. |
