Description/Notes: PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Director of Communications promotes positive public relations between the school district and the community. This role involves preparing and disseminating information about the district's activities, goals, and policies to the public and employees.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong public speaking abilities.
Proficiency in written and oral communication at all organizational levels, internally and externally.
Ability to create graphics, videos, and multimedia content using tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.
Comprehensive knowledge of media relations and public relations practices.
Competence in software applications for data analysis, word processing, and spreadsheet development.
Experience:
One to three years of experience in journalism, public relations, communications, or related field experience preferred
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate

EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Act as the primary liaison between the district and the community, serving as the district spokesperson.
Coordinate media coverage, prepare press releases, and publish content for various media outlets.
Ensure public information aligns with district goals and objectives.
Design and edit district publications such as newsletters, brochures, and event programs.
Represent the district on community committees and address civic organizations as needed.
Develop reports on district performance and communicate district objectives.
Oversee district website and app maintenance, ensuring accurate and timely updates.
Manage district social media channels, creating and sharing engaging content.
Maintain required reports, records, and documentation.
Supervise and evaluate communications staff, making recommendations on assignments, retention, and discipline.
Develop training and improvement plans to ensure exemplary communication functions.
Adhere to professional and ethical standards, in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics.
Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job performance.
Maintain confidentiality.
Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
Attend and participate in staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and the Superintendent of Schools.

May work prolonged or irregular hours. A remote location in the event of a declared emergency, temporary closure, or closure. Personal Protective Equipment may be required.
