The Mercedes Independent School District Board of Trustees is seeking a proven educational leader to serve as Superintendent of Schools of the Mercedes Independent School District. The candidate should possess knowledge of curriculum and instruction, school finance and general operational administration. In addition to serving the City of Mercedes the District serves the unincorporated communities of Heidelberg, Indian Hills and Relampago. The District is located in the Rio Grande Valley and offers easy access to major universities, medical schools, world class hospitals, outdoor recreation and it is a short distance from beautiful South Padre Island. The Mercedes ISD is the pride of one of the oldest towns in the Rio Grande Valley traditionally referred to as the “Queen City of the Valley.” Located at the center of the Rio Grande Valley, the District has access to well-known and well attended attractions such as the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo and Texas Street Festival. In addition, Mercedes, Texas is the boot capitol of the United States. As such, downtown Mercedes is recognized for its unique public art project - handcrafted 5 ½ foot tall cowboy boots displaying colleges and universities from across the country. With a population of roughly 17,000, the District serves approximately 4,200 students through various programs that include P-TECH, Dual Enrollment opportunities and Hidalgo County Head Start Program. |

Candidates must have or be eligible for a Texas Superintendent’s Certificate Application materials will be treated confidentially. Applicants are requested to not contact the Superintendent of Schools or the Board of Trustees. Each applicant will be informed of the Board’s selection and appointment of the new superintendent. The final selection and appointment is the sole responsibility of the Board. All personnel of the Mercedes Independent School District shall be employed without regard to national origin, race, sex or creed. |
