The UTHS District team members work on-site at the UT-Austin Main Campus. UTHS District is an accredited public high school district, designated as a special purpose district established in 1999.

Description/Notes: Earliest Position Start Date: June 1, 2024

This position requires reporting to work on the UT Austin main campus; however, currently the UT High School District is piloting a hybrid remote schedule with three days on campus and two days remote. This position requires remote internet access.

Purpose:
Work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program for the UT Online High School Diploma Programs. Counsel students to fully develop each student’s academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of special populations’ students.

Responsibilities:
Coordinate and provide guidance activities to assist students in planning academic coursework that aligns to Texas graduation requirements. Develop and maintain current guidance documents and Personal Graduation Plans (PGPs) for each student. Communicate information to students via webinar, email, website, or phone. Track student progress toward graduation requirements and make recommendations to support on-track 4-year graduation. Assist with planning and preparation for graduation ceremony.

Facilitate ongoing and systematic communication with students and parents regarding registration, enrollment, changes to graduation requirements or course offerings, and study support. Coordinate resources for students and parents and provide up-to-date information via website, newsletter, phone, emails, and webinars. Maintain and distribute student policy and guiding documents, prepare newsletters, prepare and present webinars, and update website routinely with supporting documents. Proactively engage in communication with students, parents, and staff to discuss students’ needs and generate solutions through collaborative processes. Engage in development and implementation of study skills support materials and student advisory activities in collaboration with the curriculum and administrative teams. Coordinate tutoring as needed and assist students and parents in communicating with specialists, administrators, and teachers.

Ensure confidentiality, accuracy, and timeliness when maintaining student records while adhering to state and university policies and requirements. Maintain accuracy of student records, enter student data, and generate student course schedules utilizing a variety of systems for student records including Texas Records Exchange (TREx), Skyward SIS, Box folders, UTHS server files, spreadsheets. Maintain test scores and student grade reports. Obtain, record, and interpret student appraisal test data and student records (e.g., intelligence and general aptitude test data and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores, grades) to communicate information to students, parents, and teachers. Maintain up-to-date student records (transcripts and PGPs) on the server and in cumulative folders. Establish and follow protocols for reviewing student transcripts to determine when students meet graduation requirements to earn their diploma. Participate in top ten percent ranking processes.

Provide guidance to students regarding college, career, and military readiness activities and monitor CCMR status of high school students. Offer appropriate college and career, vocational, military, or educational materials to students and parents (e.g., job information, college and career information, financial aid information). Consult with parents, students, teachers, and other school and community personnel (e.g., share information, make referrals). Provide resources and updates to students regarding college applications and SAT/ACT testing timelines.

Coordinate support services through systematic processes of monitoring students’ course progress and identifying students’ individual needs. Provide references for community support programs or other avenues of support as needed for students and families, considering availability in their local community. Offer individual or group counseling to students regarding college and career planning, adjusting to school or life situations, and decision-making as needed. Collaborate with curriculum and administrative teams to plan and serve students based on their needs and aligned to activities and goals defined in the campus and district improvement plans. Assist with planning and implementing state testing and G/T, 504, and special education services.

Participate in data reporting, planning, collaborative activities, course planning, support services, and marketing to assist with a variety of UTHS programs and services as needed.
Qualifications: Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in guidance counseling and valid Texas counseling certificate or current enrollment in a counseling certification or degree program. Three years of teaching experience at the secondary level. Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and college, career, and military readiness development. Knowledge of state and federal policies regarding testing and provision of G/T, 504, and special education services. Extensive knowledge of personal graduation planning process and Texas graduation requirements. Advanced technology skills including ability to schedule students and maintain student records in the Skyward SIS and use of other platforms such as Canvas LMS, Adobe Connect, and spreadsheet documents. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to instruct students and guide their behavior. Ability to establish systems and communicate in a variety of environments, including webinars, website information, phone, email, written, in-person, and social media. Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff. Strong collaborative skills and professionalism when working with all stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
More than three years of teaching experience at the secondary level. Experience teaching high school students. Degree beyond the masters level, such as Ed. S., Ph.D., or Ed. D.. Active Texas Certification for mid-management, principal, or superintendent. Experience working as a counselor in a Texas public high school. Experience providing student guidance, study support, state testing, and support with G/T, 504, and special education services. Experience working with the Skyward SIS, Canvas LMS, or Adobe Connect. Experience presenting to students and stakeholders. Experience with professional written communication including newsletters and professional documents. Experience presenting at conferences. Experience working as a lead counselor in a Texas public high school. Experience and certification to teach a high school core subject. Experience analyzing international and out-of-state transcripts for Texas transfer credits. Knowledge of International Baccalaureate courses and alignment for Texas transfer credits and course planning. Knowledge of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education standards and course program and alignment for Texas transfer credits. Fluency in a second language.

Satisfactory outcomes of fingerprinting and criminal background check required.
Salary Range: $56,000 + depending on qualifications
