Description/Notes: Job Overview

The Teacher Director Head Orchestra High Schoolwill plan and implement an instructional program for the campus string and full orchestras. The incumbent will coordinate, supervise, and manage all aspects of the campus orchestra program. The incumbent will fulfill professional responsibilities related to teaching high school orchestra courses and managing the instructional program. Overnight travel, as well as prolonged or irregular work hours are required.
Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain progress with group and individual instruction, rehearsals, and performances for the string and full orchestra programs
Plan appropriate learning activities including determination of appropriate type and level of materials and implement an instructional program that provides an appropriate learning sequence, considering different learning styles and a range of abilities
Assess student achievement as related to desired educational goals and outcomes and maintain appropriate assessment documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes
Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
Manage the behavior of learners in the instructional setting to ensure the environment is conducive to the learning process; assist and participate in management of student behavior in all parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site both during and outside of school hours; monitor and enforce compliance with the Fort Bend ISD Student/Parent Handbook and Student Code of Conduct
Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are accessible to students and in good condition

Program Management

Assign, supervise, and coordinate job responsibilities of instructional assistants within the program (where applicable)
Implement sectional, small group, and large ensemble instruction in the fall and spring semester to provide adequate preparation for all concerts, competitions, auditions, and events
Develop, implement, and monitor a public relations program that will keep the public aware of the accomplishments and events involving students in the instructional program
Develop, implement, and monitor a recruitment, audition, and placement program/schedule for all potential students
Guide all booster club activities as policies and procedures require and insure all activities sponsored by such groups reflect positively on the school district, campus, and instructional program
Comply with established FBISD policies and procedures regarding fundraising, budget management, inventory and materials management, student travel, employee travel, private lessons, and the submission of entry forms and fees by prescribed deadlines
Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration or the Director of Fine Arts

Professional Responsibilities

Ensure standards of professional conduct are maintained (Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators)
Understand and uphold all rules, regulations, and dates that pertain to the instrumental music program (UIL, TMEA, and FBISD policies all apply)
Participate in all UIL, TMEA and FBISD sponsored events; encourage student participation in all competitions/events related to the instructional program
Provide proper student supervision during and after all program activities until all students have left the area
Participate in in-service, professional learning activities, and staff meetings as required or assigned, including meetings with the Director of Fine Arts
Support and assist feeder programs by attending concerts/shows and offering reasonable assistance to these programs
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Music Education or Music Performance
Master's Degree preferred
Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment EC-12 Music
Minimum of 5 years preferred
Effective oral and written communications skills, including the ability to use social media effectively
Demonstrated proficiency on a musical instrument
Ability to interact appropriately with the public, District staff, and parents
Ability to collaborate with colleagues on the campus and in the instructional feeder pattern
Ability to market the instructional program
Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
