Description/Notes: Primary Purpose:

Provide reading intervention to students individually and in small groups, bringing them up to grade level reading standards.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies

Assess and identify children in need of reading intervention.
Provide direct instruction to identified students in a small group, classroom, or individual setting.
Plan and deliver lessons that reflect the specific academic intervention needs for each individual student.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and technology that reflects understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Differentiate instruction individually and within a small group.
Design and implement specific strategies to promote intellectual, social, and physical growth in all identified intervention students.
Evaluate and measure the effectiveness of specific strategies and interventions; conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Communicate individual student progress regularly with appropriate school personnel and parents.
Collaborate with ELAR teachers who teach students in reading and writing to share strategies and progress of students.

Classroom Management and Organization

Create environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

Professional Growth and Development

Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Other

Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
Bachelors degree
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of how to administer reading assessments to identify reading goals for students to close
learning gaps and increase student achievement
Knowledge of intervention instructional strategies and best practices
Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
Ability to interact positively with students, parents, and educators
Ability to analyze data to provide intervention support to at-risk students
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:
3-5 years teaching experience in elementary or middle school with demonstrated student success in reading
Reading Specialist or Interventionist experience preferred
Salary Range: LISD Teacher Salary Scale can be found at www.luling.txed.net. Depending on assignment and individual's certification, this position may be eligible for additional stipends. Please refer to the LISD Teacher Salary Scale for current academic stipends.
