Description/Notes: Responsible for development and implementation of a comprehensive district-wide environmental health, safety program. Direct and manage the district's maintenance, custodial, pest control services and safe school initiatives. Ensure that measures are taken to minimize hazards and safeguard the wellbeing of employees. Oversee compliance with all state and federal statutes relating to worker safety. Qualifications: Master's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree preferred

License or certification in safety and risk management preferred

Valid Noncommercial Certified Applicator license granted by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), preferred

Clear and valid Texas driver's license



Special Knowledge/Skills:



Knowledge of basic principles of construction, custodial, and school plant maintenance, safety and best practices for pest control operations.

Ability to conduct on-site inspection of district facilities

Ability to manage budget and personnel

Ability to implement policy and procedures

Ability to interpret data

Ability to read blueprints and schematics

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills



Experience:

3 years supervisory experience in maintenance, and safety operations

3 years experience in maintaining a large plant or building
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Building Maintenance and Repair
Ensure that district facilities are functional, safe, clean, and well maintained.
Develop and maintain written departmental procedures for maintenance, repair, and operations of all district buildings and equipment. Ensure that work orders are processed and executed in a timely manner.
Prepare plans and specifications for contracted repair work and site improvement for submission to purchasing department for bids
Policy, Reports, and Law

Ensure compliance with federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required including timekeeping records.
Budget and Inventory
Develop and administer budget based on documented needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
Plan and direct inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies.
Recommend disposal of obsolete equipment and purchase replacement equipment when necessary.
Initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
Approve and forward invoices and purchase orders for maintenance department to accounting department.
Personnel Management
Select, recommend, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignments, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
Prepare, review, and revise maintenance department job descriptions.
Safety
Maintain and oversee all safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations and district requirements and develop a program of preventive safety.
Ensure that equipment is maintained in optimum operating condition.
Prepare and schedule routine district and campus safety audits and drills.
Ensure equipment is expected and maintained to code specifications.
Structural Pest Control
Implement the district integrated pest control program for the use of pesticides, herbicides, and other chemical agents to control pests, rodents, insects, and weeds at district buildings and facilities.
Ensure that all pesticides used on district property comply with district policy and TDA requirements.
Maintain inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment and order additional supplies as needed. Label and secure pesticides.
Maintain files required, including pesticide application records, pesticide labels, Material Safety Data Sheets, and records of complaints.
Participate in required TDA Structural Pest Control Service integrated pest management training courses.
Ensure that all school employees who perform pest control have the necessary training and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
Keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition. Inspect tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
Other
Participate in development of the district's disaster plan and be prepared to take an active role in responding to emergencies as needed.
Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of skilled craftsmen, lead custodians, grounds supervisors, and support staff assigned to maintenance department.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Power and hand-held sprayer application equipment; hand tools; power tools. Use of standard office equipment including computer and peripherals and district vehicles.
Salary Range: 82,255 - 101,408
Salary comensurate with experience on approved salary scale
Benefits: $300 paid toward employee life insurance
$10,000 life insurance provided at no cost to employee
