Primary Purpose:
Plan, implement and direct an effective district level communication program that promotes positive public relations between the school district and community.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.
2. Provide communication support to the Office of the Superintendent and other district staff.
3. Plan, implement and direct a district level strategic communication program with progressive and consistent activities that meet set timelines.
4. Establish and maintain timely district communications which include a variety of strategies --- electronic, social media, mass communication system, hardcopy publications (quarterly magazine, newspaper submissions, cards, and brochures).
5. Coordinate promotion and dissemination of district and school activities and achievements through press releases, district web site, district publications, cards, brochures, and other means.
6. Research, write, edit, proofread, and produce internal and external communication materials, including press releases, feature stories, e-newsletters, brochures, reports, video scripts, web site content, letters, social media content, and special publications for distribution that align with the district and department goals.
7. Provide media management during district emergencies, and situations that require immediate communication to the public.
8. Respond and manage public information requests, working in coordination with other district departments to ensure compliance with all legal requirements.
9. Oversee Partners in Education Program, staff/student recognitions, special campaigns to market programs/initiatives, and maintain district brand integrity.
10. Participate in legal updates and trainings regarding public information requests.
11. Coordinate and perform photographic and videography functions throughout the district.
12. Work with district campuses and support departments to provide just-in-time communications.
13. Assist with district events including grand openings, recognitions, service awards programs, etc.
14. Work closely with the media to (1) serve as the district liaison (2) provide district story ideas which will highlight district programs and the accomplishments of districts students and staff (3) provide responses for public information in a timely fashion.
15. Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of communication efforts and develop plans for improvement.
16. Compile a department budget and cost estimates based upon documented program needs.
17. Implement the policies established by the federal and state law, State Board of Education rule and local board policy.
18. Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees; prepare and present reports as requested.
19. Stay abreast of professional practices through participation in professional organizations.
20. Work closely with the superintendent and other staff in solving district-community relation issues as needed.
21. Support and manage the communication department.
22. Model high standards of professional integrity and maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
23. Supervision of Public Relations Team.
24. Perform other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Qualifications: Education/Certification:
Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, or related field preferred.

Experience:
Five years of experience in journalism or communications preferred
Salary Range: Admin/Professional 6
