Campus Description: The Student Opportunity Center receives and services students in kindergarten through 12th grade from all Frisco ISD campuses. Kindergarten through 8th grade students who violate the District’s Student Code of Conduct can be referred by their home campus to the KEYS (Keeping Every Youth Successful) program. High school students who are struggling academically, who violate the District’s Student Code of Conduct, or who have other extenuating circumstances that hinder their academic success are referred by their home campus to the various high school alternative programs that are offered at the Student Opportunity Center.

These programs provide a structured environment and address the student’s academic and/or behavioral needs. Students attending the Student Opportunity Center will exit their individual programs with the skills necessary for continued academic, behavioral and social success.

Description/Notes: PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Develop a shared vision that supports personalized instruction and learning through collaborative leadership and innovative strategies.  Direct and manage the instructional program and supervise operations and personnel at the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) level as well as District Alternative Programs.  Oversee compliance with district policies, success of instructional program, and operations of all DAEP and Alternative Program activities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional and Program Leadership:
Provide leadership in the development of skills for the future-ready learner, including embracing challenges, communicating, collaborating, contributing, innovation, and responding.
Model effective use of digital learning and the value of taking risks to advance the district vision for future-ready learning.
Ensure personalized learning for students and staff.
Build instructional and leadership capacity in all staff.
Model and train staff in the areas of restorative practices and positive behavior supports. 
Advise campuses regarding mandatory and discretionary discipline placements at the DAEP.
Oversee and supervise the Truancy Prevention Facilitators and program vision including attendance for credit.
Oversee and supervise the Student and Family Services Coordinators and program vision.
Collaborate with the Director of Innovative Learning to help facilitate and manage online learning at the DAEP.
Oversee and supervise the General Educational Development (GED) Testing Center and program vision.
Oversee the district’s dropout recovery program.
Analyze data pertaining to student discipline disproportionality.
Seek solutions to challenges surrounding student discipline throughout the District.
Collaboratively review the District Positive Behavior Support Matrix and revise as needed.

Student Leadership:
Provide students with opportunities to take ownership of their learning and responsibility for their own behaviors.
Promote and support a safe learning environment - physically, intellectually, socially, and emotionally.
Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
 
Personnel Leadership:
Select, develop, and retain future-ready staff. 
Create structures that promote active participation, leadership, and collaboration with campus educators in professional learning communities (PLCs).
Define, monitor, and evaluate expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.
Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.
Make employment recommendations to superintendent.
Work with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional learning activities.
Engage in collaborative goal setting with staff.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s), truancy prevention facilitator(s), coordinator(s) of student and family services, teacher(s), counselor(s), librarian(s), instructional aides, clerical support staff, and custodians.
 
Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Functions:
Manage the use of school facilities that support innovative spaces that mirror the desired pedagogical practices and respond to students’ needs.
Comply with district policies and state and federal laws and regulations affecting the school.
Develop and monitor campus budgets based on documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required including accurate and timely reports of maximum attendance to requisition textbooks.
Manage use and supervise maintenance of school facilities.

Utilize coordinators of student and family services and truancy prevention facilitators to initiate activities and partnerships to address the needs of students and families.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
Master’s degree in education administration
Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
Eligible to be a certified appraiser for the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser or other approved evaluation system
Instructional Leadership (ILD) or Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) certification preferred

Working knowledge of Texas Education Code / Chapter 37 (Discipline) and Chapter 25 (Truancy) as well as Texas Family Code/Chapter 65 (Truancy)
Ability to model restorative practices and positive behavior supports
 
Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience as a classroom teacher
Minimum of three years of experience in instructional leadership roles
Campus level administrative experience required; secondary administrator experience preferred
Salary Range: Actual salary will be calculated based on experience.
