Description/Notes: | ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide leadership to set a clear vision and goals for the Multilingual Education Team (MET), Early Learning and Advanced Academics departments under Student Programs to increase academic achievement and provide support for diverse learners including English Language Learners, Early Learners and students participating in Advanced Academics Programming and students with special needs. Confront preconceptions and model open dialogue about race, culture, class, and other issues of difference with peers, staff, students, and the community. Provide expert understanding of Dual Language, Bilingual services, Early Learning, and Advanced Academics. Create a vision in the District and the community of the role of the Multilingual Education, Early Learning and Advanced Academics to ensure all students can achieve high standards. Provide leadership in developing a collaborative culture within the Department. Identify and implement goals, objectives, and strategies based on data and key issues, to be addressed for program improvement and student success. Provide leadership across disciplines and content areas that guide and support implementation of PK-12 programming for all students. Collaborate with other departments to ensure District curriculum documents are culturally relevant, embed the English Language Proficiency Standards, include linguistic objectives, and reflect quality standards in translations. Administer and appraise development and improvement of curricula for compliance with District, State, and Federal rules and regulations, review curriculum and program content. Monitor District and campus progress on the Texas Academic Performance Report for the purposes of planning improvement initiatives, providing technical assistance, and training for continuous improvement in needed areas. Serves as a facilitator for the Multilingual Education Advisory Council (MEAC) and serve on District-level committees and participate in local and state program activities and events as assigned. Demonstrate cultural proficiency, sensitivity, and equity to ensure students needs are met. Assess the distribution of support and resources ensuring allocation is equitable and provides the best resources to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of all students, families, and schools. Connect with the community in multiple ways to inspire a lifetime of learning (and therefore registration) in Austin ISD. Plan, develop, and implement a comprehensive program for students, which assesses the needs of students, establish objectives and priorities, develop strategies to achieve objectives, and evaluate programs. Apply research and best practices to inform the development of theories of pedagogy, intervention programs and improve the delivery of student programs and related services. Assist the Chief Academic Officer in establishing Board policies and procedures related to the curriculum area, services, and support for diverse student populations. Communicate guidelines inherent in those policies and oversee implementation of the policies. Work in conjunction with the Texas Education Agency and other agencies to meet the needs of students; prepare and monitor contracts with individuals and agencies for special services, and ensure compliance of programs with federal, state, and local regulations. Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of the long-range instructional goals of the District to improve instructional outcomes as measured by state and national standards. Effectively assess department programs and goals and prioritize, plan, and implement improvements, as needed. Establish processes for quality controls, operational efficiency, and accuracy in departmental work. Work closely with the departments for Accountability and PEIMS and Program Evaluations to promote a systematic approach to program improvement. Provide technical assistance to staff, families, and outside agencies related to the implementation of legal mandates. Demonstrate awareness of District-community needs and interface with governmental agencies, business and civic organizations, and the community to provide needed information and to promote the Districts educational initiatives to meet those needs. Provide an exceptional customer experience for all AISD stakeholders with intentional and professional practices that promote a culture of respect and focus on achieving equitable outcomes. |
Qualifications: | MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A Masters degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in curriculum, instruction, and educational leadership is required. A Doctorate degree is highly preferred. A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience at the campus level and in central administration is required. Experience as an executive at the District level supervising principals and/or Districtwide departments is required. Fluency in Spanish/English is preferred. |
