Description/Notes: Position Summary:


The primary role of the Reading Instructional Specialist is to work directly with teachers, campus coaches, directors and the academic department to improve teaching and learning to ensure all students are successful. Assist in the effective and efficient operations of the instructional initiatives which includes curriculum, professional development, and assessment. Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Academics, the Reading Instructional Specialist, will utilize data to support developing and improving learning opportunities for students, as well as provide coaching to support reading programs on Title 1 campuses. The Reading Instructional Specialist will support, coach, and mentor campus Reading Instructional Coaches and early childhood teachers. This is a grant funded position.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelors Degree in a Early Literacy, ELAR or a related field from an accredited institution
Valid Texas K-5 ELAR teaching certificate
Masters degree in educational administration or curriculum and instruction (preferred)

Experience:

4+ years of successful Early Childhood (Pk-2) reading teaching experience
Experience in teacher mentoring/coaching or willingness to research, understand and implement effective practices
Experience using student and campus level data to select, implement, and differentiate instructional methods designed to meet each students individual needs.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

Strong core content knowledge in reading and literacy development
Knowledge and experience with classroom implementation of a rigorous curriculum and instructional strategies in reading/English Language Arts
Knowledge of effective instructional strategies and research-based best practices including ( but not limited to) project-based learning, differentiated instruction, lesson planning, asynchronous learning and student assessment
Evidence of skill in lesson/unit/year planning, organization, and collaboration
Knowledge and experience in coaching and training effective professional development practices, ELL strategies, adult learning methodology, and RTI strategies facilitation, training, and presentation skills
Willingness to participate in professional development for coaching duties, that will teach strategies and best practices for mentoring, facilitating, and training
Passion for increasing student learning and teacher knowledge and effectiveness
Ability to extensively travel to school sites with overnight stay

Responsibilities and Duties:

Apply knowledge of content and course standards, effective research-based instructional practices and assessment methods to curriculum development and program initiatives
Provide support for Title 1 campuses specific to individual campus needs and goals
Design and present professional development using effective professional development standards
Conduct needs analysis to identify teaching and learning needs at each campus
Assist Reading coaches and teachers (in teams or individually) to refine their knowledge and skills
Methods of instruction will include modeling effective instruction using a gradual release structure, co-teaching, peer observation, and in-class coaching
Assist the academic department with other curriculum supports as needed : (designing, developing, implementing, evaluating new programs, ensuring curricular alignment , research innovative programs and strategies)
Stay current with curricular trends and standards changes
Complete a coaching report for each session of coaching or technical assistance provided to a Reading Instructional Coach/campus
Respond promptly to telephone and email inquiries from teachers, coaches and administrators.
Attend district level training and provide campus level professional development
Provide ongoing feedback to campus administration to be used in the teacher evaluation process.
Assist with the campus strategic plan and formulation of the CIP as requested
Attend campus and district meetings/trainings as assigned.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 / Per Year
