The New Braunfels Independent School District represents a history of strong educational achievements. With a foundation beginning as far back as 1845, NBISD now serves more than 9,000 students and employs nearly 1,200 employees. New Braunfels ISD encompasses 15 campuses to include: one early childhood center, nine elementary campuses, two middle schools, one ninth grade center, one 10th-12th grade high school, and one alternative learning center. In November 2018, voters approved a $118.3 million bond referendum to build a new middle school and a new elementary. The middle school is projected to open in August 2021 and the new elementary in August 2023. The bond also included $6.6 million to increase student safety and security, nearly $14 million in renovations to address aging schools and campus additions and $3.4 million in upgrades and additions for the middle school and high school athletics. For the first time, NBISD also included $6 million in bond funds for future transportation needs related to growth as well as $5.4 million for technology. Both the technology and transportation items and projects included in the 2018 Bond will be funded through short-term bonds (5-to-10 years) to allow for less interest and a shorter repayment period.
