| Description/Notes: | Position: Director of Career and Technical Education & Career Readiness Campus: Dickinson High School Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Immediate Supervisor(s): Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Pay Grade: AP 7 Days Employed: 221 POSITION SUMMARY: Direct and manage the district Career and Technical Education program and facilities to meet the needs of students Serve as an instructional leader in the development and improvement of instructional programs in Career and Technical Education QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: Master’s degree Certified Appraiser for the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) Certified Teacher certified by the State Board for Educator Certification Special Knowledge/Skills: Working knowledge of federal and state code governing Career and Technical Education Ability to manage budget and personnel Ability to coordinate district functions Ability to implement policy and procedures Ability to interpret data Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills Experience: Principal experience (preferred) Five (5) years of administrative experience in Texas public schools MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Public and Community Relations: Oversee the development of innovative Career and Technical Education instructional programs and ensure that curricular documents, instructional support materials, student assessment instruments, and admission criteria are in place for each program Ensure that curriculum renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs Identify and define local job opportunities for students Recruit employers to hire students and work with the district to make opportunities for experiential learning Provide all campuses with career exploration and awareness resources and testing materials Evaluate the Career and Technical Education program effectiveness based on evaluative findings (including student achievement data) and recommend changes Ensure student progress is evaluated and that findings are used to make the Career and Technical Education programs more effective Student Management: Implement district student-management policies and ensure enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, teachers, business partners, and community members Policy, Reports, and Law: Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. Recommend sound policies to improve the Career and Technical Education program. Compile, maintain, file, and present reports, records, and other documents Budget and Inventory: Develop and administer a budget based on documented needs and ensure that operations are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment, and recommend the disposal and replacement of equipment when necessary Approve and forward purchase orders for the department to the accounting department Personnel Management: Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions of Career and Technical Education staff with the support of the campus principals Develop training options and/or improvement plans to ensure effective operation of the Career and Technical Education department Select, train, supervise, evaluate staff, and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal Facility Management: Assume responsibility for Career and Technical Education facilities and ensure equipment/materials are available and in optimal operating condition Regularly communicate with FFA teachers to ensure the DISD Agricultural Facility is in optimal condition Conduct regular inspections of the DISD Agricultural Facility to ensure optimal conditions are present (morning, evening, and weekend visits should occur on a randomized basis) Conduct regular meetings with parents, students, and teachers to ensure the health and welfare of animals Maintain an effective relationship with Facilities service members to ensure a well-maintained Agricultural Facility Communication and Community Support: Assist students, parents, and teachers with career, college, and scholarship information Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise and evaluate the performance of all CTE personnel EXPECTATIONS OF MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job Tools/Equipment /Used: Standard office equipment, including a personal computer and peripherals Posture: Prolonged sitting, occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding, and use of a mouse; occasional reading Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 45 pounds) Environment: Frequent district-wide travel; occasional statewide travel and evening/weekend/holiday hours required Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress *This document describes the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job* EVALUATIONS: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually |
