| Description/Notes: | Primary Objectives for this Leadership Position: • Direct and manage the overall K – 12 extracurricular athletic programs for Gateway College Preparatory School in Georgetown, TX. • Responsible for coaching one of the following sports (Track/Cross Country, Boys Soccer, Boys Lacrosse) • Ensure compliance with all University Interscholastic League (UIL), Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL), National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), and other athletic league rules that the school participates in. • Develop and maintain the athletic department budget. • Grow the student-athlete participation numbers. • Ensure all varsity athletic teams are competitive as evidenced by consistent qualification for post-season playoffs, with sub-varsity and lower age teams finishing consistently in the top three in district standings. • For the gifted athletes who want to play at the next level after high school, ensure that each sport offered will physically prepare, and academically qualify those athletes for a scholarship to a college or university that fits them. Major Responsibilities and Duties: Program Planning 1. Direct and manage the school’s athletic programs and facilities. 2. Establish physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport, and verify each athlete's eligibility. 3. Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development. 4. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge athletic program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs. 5. Plan necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of department goals. 6. Ensure all transportation needs are properly arranged and communicated. 7. Manage and coordinate CDL Certifications and Annual Training Requirements. 8. Ensure vehicle maintenance and timely vehicle inspections and registrations are completed. Athletic Events 9. Prepare and approve all interscholastic game schedules. 10. Ensure all transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town athletic events are arranged. 11. Manage district athletic operations by directing ticket sales, employing game officials, and ensuring preparation of facilities. 12. Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all athletic equipment. 13. Coordinate the use of all athletic facilities by non-school groups. 14. Plan, organize, and supervise all athletic awards programs. Student & Parent Management 15. Implement student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with the Athletic Handbook and the Student Code of Conduct. 16. Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences on vital issues with parents, students, and teachers. Policy, Reports, and Law 17. Implement the policies established by federal law, state law, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, THSLL rules, and district policy in area of athletics. 18. Maintains data and is responsible for submitting the annual TEA Bus Accident Reporting System (BARS). Due 7/31 Annually 19. Compile, maintain, file, and present all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. Budget and Inventory 20. Administer the athletic budget to ensure that programs are cost effective, and funds are managed prudently. 21. Coordinate the scheduling and procurement of additional vehicles as required. 22. Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs. 23. Initiate, and/or approve purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies. 24. Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment and recommend disposal and replacement of equipment when necessary. 25. Approve and forward purchase orders for athletic department to accounting department. Personnel Management 26. Serve as the Head Coach for one of the UIL High School sports offered by Gateway College Preparatory School. 27. Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions for athletic department. 28. Recruit, select, train, and supervise all athletic department personnel, including trainers, and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, assignments, retention, discipline, and dismissal. 29. Evaluate job performance of coaches, athletic, and transportation staff employees to ensure effectiveness. 30. Develop training options and/or improvement plans for employees to ensure exemplary operation in area of athletics. Community Relations & Charitable Fund Raising 31. Articulate the school’s athletic department mission and goals to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission. 32. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement. 33. Support athletic booster club activities. Working Conditions: • Mostly office type work but some physical activity with occasional lifting of heavy objects. • Frequent UIL district, local and statewide travel to athletic organizing meetings. • Frequent prolonged and irregular work hours to attend and oversee athletic events on campus, and some away contests. | Qualifications: | Certification/Teaching/Coaching Experience: • Valid Texas teaching certificate • At least three years in a full-time teaching position • At least three years coaching a UIL varsity high school team in a sport currently offered by the school Additional Skills & Experience Preferred: • Master's degree from an accredited college or university with at least nine hours of credit in administration related classes such as planning, budgeting, accounting, marketing, communication, finance, etc.; or Bachelor degree with certification in athletic administration (CMAA, RAA, RIAA, etc.), or ten years coaching/teaching experience in a UIL school, with some experience in athletic administration duties • Texas CDL school bus endorsement • CPR • First Aid Special Knowledge/Skills: • Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program. • Knowledge of UIL contest rules, policies and procedures, especially those related to public charter schools. • Highly organized and disciplined. • Ability to gather and interpret data. • Proven ability to manage a P&L budget. • Skilled in using Microsoft Excel and Word (or google doc) software. • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills. |
