Description/Notes: The Assistant Director Transportation will direct and manage the supervisory staff and employee workforce by coordinating the daily operation activities (drivers, vehicles, scheduling and routing) to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services for our students while maintaining a harmonious relation with transportation staff, district administrators, teachers, coaches, and community members.
Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operations

Monitor the safe and on-time pick-up and delivery of our students
Optimize vehicle routing and record supporting data/documentation
Ensure the effective utilization of vehicles
Collect and analyze key pupil transportation data and/or reports
Communicate any route modifications having an adverse impact on campus administrators, parents, students, and/or communities
Serve as a liaison with the Public Works Department and Police Department on matters pertaining to student transportation issues
Administrative
Document and manage campus administrator, parent, and employee complaints
Prepare and submit required documents/reports in a timely manner
Responsible for properly maintaining district documents/records, adhering to all policies set forth by district records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule
Assist the Director in preparation of the budget and subsequent analysis of variance
Supervise the investigation of vehicular accidents, complete and submit accident reports
Ensure all payroll transactions are processed efficiently and accurately by reviewing, auditing and approving payroll register
Assist in preparing and expediting legislative measures for th improvement of student transportation
Assist in the identification, planning and implementation of alternative fuel initiatives
Assist in preparing bus specifications for the budget of vehicle replacement and additions to accommodate district growth
Assist in selection and maintenance of new equipment; GPS, video cameras, radios, software tracking and fleet maintenance software
Supervisory Responsibilities
Evaluates the performance of all direct-report personnel on a regular basis according to Fort Bend ISD policy
Supervise the department staff and coordinate the work of all assigned personnel, minimizing overtime by auditing payroll and route standards report
Supervise compliance with Fort Bend ISD policies and/or processes by action and speech. Discuss any breech of policy and procedure noted with the Director of Transportation
Administer appropriate employee discipline as necessary in accordance with Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures
Assist in the process of recruiting, screening, interviewing and hiring of department staff
Assist in the investigation of school bus and transportation vehicle accidents and incidents involving serious injury and/or property damage from a vehicle maintenance perspective and develop corrective action plans and preparation of materials and reports for accident review
Supervise the assignment/distribution of work, routes and buses
Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED and 20 college-level semester hours with emphasis in management, accounting or business preferred
Texas CDL Driver's License, Class A or B, with P and S endorsements Or must be able to obtain within 120 days of hired date
Pass an Annual Physical Per (DOT) Department of Transportation
Texas School Bus Driver Certification or obtain within 120 days
Minimum of 5 years In Transportation Logistics
Minimum of 3 years In a Lead or Supervisory role in the school bus industry
Ability to organize and coordinate the activities of a large transportation system
Ability to work effectively with campus principals, staff, students, and parents
Comprehensive knowledge of bus routing and scheduling software systems
Computer literate, preferable in word processing, power point, and spreadsheets
Strong organization skills and group presentation
Excellent interpersonal skills and well developed written and verbal communication
Must be knowledgeable in adult training techniques and possess a mechanical aptitude, and strong leadership skills
Basic math skills, detail orientation, mapping and routing skills
Salary Range: $82,486 - $117,130
