Description/Notes: SUMMARY
 
To work cooperatively with other district personnel so that a consistently high district standard is maintained in the education of gifted and talented students in kindergarten through grade twelve.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Directs the student identification process, keeps appropriate records and serves on the district selection committee.
Maintains participation, eligibility, and attendance records on all district GT students for PEIMS.
Plans and directs summer curriculum projects, which includes planning, developing, and revising curriculum used in the GT program.
Assists with the selection of teachers for the GT program.
Provides teachers new to the program the necessary information and understanding to increase the probability of early success in the implementation of the curriculum and other assigned duties.
Conducts and arranges professional development workshops for teachers, administrators, and counselors to meet the state requirement for 30 hours introductory training and/or six-hour annual update.
Observes programs operating in the GT classrooms.
Evaluates the curriculum and plans improvements for GT programs in the classroom.
Provides encouragement and direction to GT teachers in helping them solve work-related problems.
Identifies, evaluates, recommends, orders, and distributes selected materials to implement the learning processes.
Facilitates the utilization of GT materials.
Stays knowledgeable and informed about the best practices and current research on gifted education.
Cultivates good public relations through awareness of all aspects of the gifted program.
Schedules and conducts parent meetings to inform parents of newly identified students about the program.
Conducts an annual program evaluation.
Conducts meetings with program GT teachers.
Communicates with principals, classroom teachers, and GT teachers concerning the GT program.
Participates in conferences between district personnel and parents in matters related to the GT program as needed.
Works with Executive Director of Elementary Education and other central office administrators in establishing and revising program policy.
Performs other tasks as may be assigned by Supervisor/Superintendent.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
Master's degree and five years teaching experience, with a minimum of two years experience in GT.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS
 
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of administrators, teachers, parents, students and the general public.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
 
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
 
REASONING ABILITY
 
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
 
Gifted and Talented education endorsement preferred.

Salary Range: $32,484 - $46,444
