Description/Notes: | Education/Certification: Required: Valid Texas teaching certificate Master's Degree Preferred: Mid-management or other appropriate administrator certificate Certified Masters Athletic Administrator (CMAA) or NIAAA Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) or Registered Athletic Administrator's Certification (RAA) Athletic Administration experience Special Knowledge/Skills: Required: Knowledge of University Interscholastic League rules and regulations Knowledge of School District policies, regulations and guidelines concerning athletics Ability to manage budget and personnel Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills Experience: Three (3) years successful athletic administrative and coaching experience in the secondary public schools Function: Responsible for directing and managing the overall program of extracurricular athletic activities for the District Reports To: Superintendent of Schools Responsibilities: Provide leadership that is supportive of instructional goals and objectives of the school district's athletic program Works cooperatively with principals and staff to define personnel needs regarding instruction and coaching needs Promotes and encourages effective communication with staff, community, media and Board of Trustees to promote a positive image in support of the school district's policies Implement district student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student/Parent Code of Conduct and Student Handbook. Implement policies established by federal law, state law, State Board of Education, and UIL rules and regulations. Administer the athletic budget and ensure that programs are cost-effective and that funds are managed prudently. Maintains an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development Coordinate district-wide events and activities related to athletic programs Provides leadership in the planning and conducting of needs assessments related to the athletic program of the school district Works with staff in projecting staff needs, building and facility needs, capital outlay needs, and other cost items for district and individual school improvement Design, implement, monitor, and evaluate all district athletic programs at the secondary level Prepares, reviews, and revises job descriptions in the department of athletics Evaluates job performance of athletic office employees and athletic coordinators to ensure effectiveness Will be held accountable for all athletic staff and event workers behavior under his/her supervision while on duty on campus or off duty Manages and directs the the business affairs of the athletic program, including the preparation and administration of the athletic budget, scheduling of games and contests, sales of tickets, and operation of all athletic facilities Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents required Follows proper and safe management of monies and is accountable for the reconciliation of budget plus athletic coordinator and athletic office staff travel advances and reconciliations Design and approve athletic department operating policies and procedures and ensure district compliance with rules and regulations set by the state board and UIL related to athletic programs. Encourages and supports the district's student management system and expected behavior related to operational aspects of the district, i.e., athletic functions, transportation, and athletic facilities Utilizes information and insight gained in professional development for self improvement Develops professional skills appropriate to job assignments Seeks ways to improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development and active involvement in professional associations Conducts oneself in a professional ethical manner in accordance with generally accepted community standards; complies with Texas Education Agency and University Interscholastic League code of ethics Communicates to the general public the school district's overall mission and goals and ways in which the athletic office supports them Provides technical assistance to principals and general public related to interpretation of Texas Education Agency and University Interscholastic League policies and regulations Demonstrates the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement Demonstrates awareness of district/community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs. Perform other duties and tasks assigned by the Superintendent Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises and evaluates the performance of athletic administrators, athletic coordinators, athletic trainers, athletic field crew and athletic office support staff assigned to the area of athletics.
