Description/Notes: | Job Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced instructional leader to serve as the Principal of Ponder Junior High School, serving grades 6 through 8. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, equitable student support, and collaborative leadership. The Principal will be responsible for the daily operation of the school, with a focus on fostering a positive school culture, promoting high-quality instruction, and supporting the success of all students, including those from special populations. Key Responsibilities: Instructional Leadership Lead the development and implementation of rigorous and inclusive curriculum and instructional practices. Evaluate and support teachers to ensure high-quality, standards-based instruction. Use data to drive decision-making and continuous school improvement. Promote professional learning communities and evidence-based instructional strategies. Support for Special Populations Demonstrate expertise in working with diverse learners, including students with disabilities, English Language Learners (ELLs), and gifted and talented students. Collaborate with special education and support staff to meet IEP and 504 plan requirements. Ensure compliance with federal and state mandates related to special education and equity. School Culture and Student Supervision Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students and staff. Implement fair and consistent student discipline practices. Promote a positive behavior support system and character development programs. Staff Supervision and Development Recruit, hire, mentor, and retain high-quality staff. Conduct staff evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and professional development. Build leadership capacity among staff through shared decision-making and collaboration. Family and Community Engagement Communicate effectively and transparently with families and the broader community. Promote active parent involvement and build partnerships with community organizations. Represent the school positively in all stakeholder interactions. |
Qualifications: | Master's Degree in Educational Administration or related field required Minimum two years of successful school leadership required Valid Principal Certification through SBEC Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Experience leading professional development preferred Instructional leadership experience required Demonstrated success working with special populations Experience with restorative practices and trauma-informed leadership preferred |
