Description/Notes: Provide vision and leadership that focuses on Lewisville ISD’s vision, mission, and core values by leading and directing a successful special education program that ensures a continuum of comprehensive services for students with disabilities from 0-21 years of age coupled with ensuring compliance with all, state, federal and local requirements.
Qualifications: • Master’s degree or higher from accredited college/university in administration and/or special education
• Possess or be eligible for professional/administrative certification in Texas
• Five years of successful experience in supervisory or administrative capacity
• Three years of successful experience leading a special education program in a large public school system (>15,000 students)
• Extensive knowledge of special education program, professional development, 504, and best practices
• Extensive knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and litigation
• Ability to develop and interpret policy and procedures
• Knowledge of special education information systems and efficient, effective work processes
• Knowledge of principles of public-school administration, effective administrative methods, and techniques, and/or current trends in education
• Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others to develop capacity and hold people accountable for high level of performance
• Shares extensive knowledge of current state/federal education regulations and requirements of special education
• Understanding of the individual needs of special needs students and promotes innovation in serving students with learning or behavioral differences
• Builds enthusiasm, community, and collaboration throughout the special education and parent community
• Ability to implement policy and procedures
• Demonstrates ability to coordinate district-level special education functions in a manner that leads teachers to design learning that intrigues students and causes each student to persevere when learning is difficult and results in student learning.
• Ability to manage budget and personnel
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
