Job Description

Primary Function
The Academic Advisor plays a pivotal role in assisting scholars in evaluating and realizing their educational career options. Collaborating closely with teachers and administrators, the Academic Advisor fosters a climate conducive to scholar goals. The primary objective is to ensure that all scholars graduate on time with the appropriate credits for their degree plan, advancing their college and career aspirations. Reporting directly to the Campus Director of Higher Education, the Academic Advisor is instrumental in guiding scholars toward academic success.

Manage scheduling and proctoring for benchmarks and assessments: TSI, PSAT, SAT, CBE & ASVAB
Understand and analyze benchmark data
Maintain centralized advising data
College Readiness

Track scholars' CCMR (College, Career, and Military Readiness) credits and ensure all scholars graduate with one
Communicate with parents regarding college plans, dual credit, and course work
Monitor scholar classes and course work to create individual graduation plans
Ensure accurate PEIMS reporting related to attendance, endorsements, CTE, CCMR, dual college classes, officer training, CPR training, FASFA, credit recovery, and associates degrees
Collaborate with the high school team quarterly to tailor PSAT, TSI & SAT support and target scholars’ needs for success
Dual Credit

Manage TSI testing
Ensure scholars are registered and complete all requirements for eligibility
Maintain and strengthen dual credit partnerships with colleges
Organize dual credit transportation as needed
Special Programs

Work with Special Pops teachers to offer greater support to SPED, ESL, & 504 scholars
Prepare improvement plans as needed
Serve as the campus TED representative and attend all ARDs, including 8th grade ARDs discussing their high school Personal Graduation Plans (PGP)
AVID Instruction & Scholar Achievement

Teach scholars the importance of hard work through joyful rigor, engaging, dynamic learning that is academically, intellectually and personally challenging.
Implement BA non-negotiable instructional methods including Socratic Method, Soft Skills Coaching, and Leadership Development
Understand that classroom observational feedback/scores will emphasize the successful implementation of the above teaching methods.
Challenge scholars to reach their highest potential.
Model and promote BA character traits to scholars and stress the importance of each scholar being a responsible, contributing citizen to society. Recognize and reward scholars for displaying BA character traits and uphold zero tolerance for bullying and disrespect.
Assist scholars with college applications, scholarship searches, and financial aid forms (e.g., FAFSA).
Facilitate college and career exploration activities, including guest speakers, college visits, and career fairs.
Management & Organization

Facilitate high school activities such as Signing Day, Graduation, Character Cord, College Visits, Volunteer Hours, Orientation, etc.
Communicate regularly with parents about their child’s progress, college readiness, and ways to support their academic goals at home
Facilitate parent involvement and education classes on high school programs
Make regular phone calls and send updates to parents to keep them informed and engaged in their child’s education
Publish High School Newsletters and distribute
Be visible to scholars, maintain consistent daily office hours for scholars, ensure availability for academic support and guidance
Attend tribe events to build relationships with rising HS scholars
Plan and teach the bridging materials to prepare 8th graders going to HS
Monitor and ensure completion of credit recovery each semester including summer
Process scholar schedule add/drop request within 24 hours
Manage all the Volunteer Intern Program (VIP) Scholar assignments and volunteer hour tracking
Write scholar recommendation letters and nomination-type events
Take ownership of scholar behavior by actively addressing and managing issues, including enforcing the dress code, to ensure a positive and respectful learning environment
Be present in the hallways during transitions to monitor scholar behavior and ensure a safe and orderly environment.
Recognize problems and assist with constructive resolutions
Ensure a professional and college preparatory climate across the campus
Assist in the development of community and strategic partnerships
Read and comply with the Procedures Manual, Employee Handbook, Scholar Handbook and Scholar Code of Conduct
Establish and maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders: Parents, scholars, staff, neighbors, and partners.
Promote and maintain a positive and effective school climate by ensuring that all interactions with staff, scholars, parents, and the public at large are prompt, efficient, helpful and friendly
