Description/Notes: | The Powell Law Group is excited to collaborate with Center Point ISD in their search for a new superintendent, due to the retirement of Cody Newcomb after 16 successful years leading the district. Dr. Danny Lovett will be conducting the search process. Community History and Information Center Point, Texas, is a small, unincorporated community located in Kerr County, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. The area was settled in the mid-1850s, by pioneers attracted to the area’s fertile land and the Guadalupe River, which provided a steady water supply and supported agriculture and ranching. The community got its name from its central location between Kerrville and Comfort, serving as a midpoint and trading post for travelers and settlers. It became an important stop for stagecoaches and freight wagons during the 19th century, which helped Center Point grow in regional significance. By the late 1800s, Center Point had developed into a thriving rural town with schools, churches, stores, and its own post office, which opened in 1859. Though it never formally incorporated, the town maintained a strong community spirit and identity. The arrival of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway in the late 1800s helped further support the local economy, especially for ranchers and farmers. District History and Information In 1884, J.C. Nowlin donated an acre of land for a school building and a plank building was erected. In 1910, San Antonio architect Alfred Giles designed and J.V. Oppert built a two-story limestone building. The school officially opened for classes in the fall of 1911. Although the district has received many additions and upgrades to the original building, some classes are still taught in the original limestone building, which serves as an educational and social hub for Center Point. The existing campus is a beautiful example of how modern school architecture can blend and incorporate historic buildings with new structures. Center Point ISD has a current enrollment of 531 students, with approximately 100 total employees. The district is successful in both academic and extra-curricular activities. Our parents and community are active partners in the education of our students. We are a “B” rated district under the state accountability system and proud to have a Superior Financial Rating, with a balanced budget for the 2025-2026 school year. Today, Center Point remains a close-knit community known for its scenic landscapes, historic homes, and rural charm. While it has not grown as quickly as neighboring towns, it continues to reflect the heritage and character of the early Hill Country settlers. |
