Description/Notes: | Job Title: Head Football Coach/Athletic Coordinator Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Department: Assigned Campus Reports To: Principal / Superintendent Designee Approved By: Board of Trustees SUMMARY: Supervise and coordinate the implementation of the athletic program in the high school and corresponding feeder schools with a focus on program development. This position includes responsibility for the all athletic program in terms of coaching and staff organization in conjunction with the principal. The athletic coordinator is to assign all campus coaches and maintain supervision over their coaching duties. Responsible for adding to the total educational experience through athletics that will contribute to the general welfare and development of each student. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: • Bachelor's degree EXPERIENCE: • Four years offensive/defensive coordinator experience/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. • High School head football coach or collegiate college experience (player or coach) preferred CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: • Valid Texas teaching certificate OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • General knowledge of the overall operations of the football program • Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules • Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes and manage their behavior • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Instruction 1. Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in sport assigned. 2. Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. 3. Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes. Program Management 4. Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis. 5. Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities. 6. Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all UIL rules. 7. Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation. 8. Work with athletic director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements. 9. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of coaching program and make changes based on findings. Student Management 10. Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips. 11. Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices. 12. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. 13. Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation. Community Relations 14. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers. 15. Demonstrate awareness of district and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs. Work collaboratively with external organizations to build athletic programs in the community for students at all grade levels. 16. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement. Administration 17. Assist in selection of equipment and instructional materials. 18. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. 19. Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within program. 20. Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment. 21. Assist the principal in recruitment, selection, management and evaluation of all program personnel. 22. Assist with the supervision and management of all district UIL activities. 23. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors and/or superintendent. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise assigned coaches, trainers, student athletic assistants, and support staff assigned. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and responds to questions from administrators, peers, students, parents, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, run, talk, hear and sometimes sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. Frequent bending, pulling and pushing is required. The employee will experience outdoor exposure to sun and heat and occasionally to very cold temperatures. Frequent district wide and statewide travel is required. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud depending upon the activity being conducted. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. |
