Description/Notes: Latexo ISD is accepting applications for Chief of Police of the school district. Latexo ISD is searching for a qualified candidate to lead the department. Latexo ISD is a rural 2A district located approximately 5 miles from Crockett, Texas. The district is comprised of a PK-6th grade elementary and a 7th-12th grade secondary, and all buildings in the district are in close proximity to one another. The department consists of the chief of police and one other officer whose first order of business is the safety and security of the district, its students, and its faculty and staff through day to day policing, safety and security auditing and training, and implementation of tactics relevant to school district and educational law enforcement practices. Oversee investigations of criminal activity that occur within the district's jurisdiction. Support other agencies conducting investigations. Serve as district liaison to state and local law enforcement agencies and juvenile authorities. Represent the district on assigned committees and task forces. Maintain department safety procedures including procedures for safe handling and use of firearms.
This position reports directly to the superintendent of schools.
Qualifications: Ideal candidate with 10 years of law enforcement experience with 5 years of being in a supervisory role. TCOLE Certified Peace Officer (current status active and in good standing). 3 years of school law enforcement experience preferred; in depth knowledge of school law enforcement practices, regulations, and compliance as well as behavioral threat assessments and safety trainings for students, faculty, and staff; working knowledge of the “Guardian” plan; ability to work with multiple personnel for day to day operations; ability to plan, budget, and account for all school district police department materials and supplies; and ability to manage any other safety protocols directly related to school law enforcement. Knowledge of the overall operations of the police department.
Knowledge of criminal investigations, police report writing, and criminal law.
Training and ability to subdue offenders, including the use of firearms and handcuffs.
Bondable as required by Texas Education Code §37.081 (h). Ability to schedule all required TCOLE training. Must be able to pass an extensive background check, physical fitness assessment and drug screen.
Strong public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Salary Range: Depends on experience
