Special Knowledge/Skills:
Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs in special education program. Work under the immediate direction of a certified teacher and general supervision of the principal.
 Experience with or certifications/training to work with special education students in an autism program.
 Meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through an approved course of study for paraprofessionals (if not certified, will attend a course at a Region center ESC)
 Maintain confidentiality regarding student and coworker information and as required by FERPA.
 Ability to adapt instruction to meet individual student needs
 Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
 Ability to communicate effectively
 Strong computer skills to implement multiple and diverse programs or willing to learn.
 Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training preferred or willing to obtain certification
 Experience working with students in a general education setting and/or a special education setting preferred (but not required).
Responsibilities and Duties may include but not limited to:
 Instructional support for various academic content
 Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
 Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
 Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of materials and equipment.
 Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
 Assist in the implementation of identified accommodations, goals and objectives, and behavior intervention plans.
Student Management:
 Conduct instructional activities as directed by the teacher for individual
students or small groups of students.
 Demonstrate support for student management policy.
 Assume responsibility for learning how to work with student's individual needs.
 Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the
classroom – lunchroom, recess, or other campus duties
 Keep teachers informed of student progress/needs.

Equipment Used: Personal computer, printer, copier, calculator, fax machine, laptop, digital camera, recording equipment, and various other mobile devices.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Ability to maintain emotional control under stress and work with frequent interruptions; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, climbing, stretching, light lifting of books, boxes, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment; repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer, ability to carry up to 40 pounds.
Qualifications: Willingness to work. Para certification and willingness to be certified in any other areas needed such as CPI.
