|Description/Notes:||To provide strategies for teaching and supporting students in the literacy skills needed to learn to read, read to learn, and comprehend.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Serve as the campus Dyslexia interventionist teacher/RTI Reading Interventionist at campus assigned.
Implement the District Dyslexia intervention program.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning style and needs of students and reading according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, State Dyslexia Handbook, board policies, and administrative regulations.
Work with campus 504/District Dyslexia Coordinator to maintain compliance with Section 504.
Cooperate with other member of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals. Coordinate services with other involved school personnel in planning and providing joint instruction for students.
Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to accommodate regular curricula as needed and assist dyslexic/TIER 3 students in regular classes with assignments.
Participate in 504 committee meetings to be a part of making instructional decisions based on student data and teacher observation.
Effectively use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Student Growth and Development:
Assess the progress of the students in the Dyslexia Intervention Program/RTI Intervention program on a regular basis using formal/informal assessments and provide progress reports as required.
Report progress monitoring on Dyslexia students three times a year to the District Dyslexia Coordinator.
Report data on TIER 3 students not identified as requested by campus/district administration
Work with administrators, teachers, and campus RTI teams to collect and analyze data, interpret, and use to guide instructional decisions.
Keep accurate and complete records for students served and submit as required.
Communicate with parents through progress reports, conferences and phone calls.
Act as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the Huntsville Independent School District.
Classroom Management and Organization
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assist in selecting instructional materials.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development:
Successfully complete training in the district’s Dyslexia program/State Dyslexia Requirements as stated in the Dyslexia handbook.
Participate in staff development to improve job related skills.
Seek opportunities for professional learning specific to program needs, district needs and national standards.
Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s).

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university, Master’s degree preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements
Master Reading Teacher Certification preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of dyslexia and dyslexia procedures
Knowledge of Multi-Sensory Teaching Approach preferred
General knowledge of RTI and curriculum and instruction
Knowledge of accommodations for differences in learning styles
Knowledge of the components of reading
Choose and administer appropriate reading assessments related to student data
Utilize assessment information to implement reading instruction based on state standards and best practices for literacy
Understand first and second language acquisition and its impact on reading
Utilize strategies to ensure research-based reading instruction through communication and collaboration with stakeholders
Knowledge of federal, state, local and district laws, policies and procedures related to Dyslexia, Section 504 and IDEA.
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
Three years teaching with a demonstrated record of success in literacy instruction
Experience working with dyslexic students preferred, but not required.
