Campus Description: The Assistant Director, Literacy Curriculum and Instruction, will be responsible for leadership in all aspects of the ELA and Social Studies Curriculum and Instruction areas to include development and implementation of budgeting, staffing, professional development, curriculum documents, assessments, program management, and Response to Intervention (RtI), while leading innovation for continuous departmental improvement. The incumbent will foster the development of a guaranteed and viable curriculum, aligned with the District’s assessment philosophy and vision for Teaching and Learning, which supports success for all students.

Description/Notes:
Curriculum & Program Management
• Lead the development, design, and delivery of the District’s Response to Intervention (RtI) framework to include universal screeners, processes for instructional decision making and interventions, and evaluation of student progress related to RtI services
• Work in collaboration with the Director of Literacy Curriculum and Instruction to lead curriculum, intervention and enrichment, and assessment development, implementation, and evaluation in ELA and Social Studies curriculum aligned to the District’s assessment philosophy
• Collaborate to implement the district-level decision making process to establish and review the District's instructional priorities, goals and objectives and major instructional programs related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment
• Collaborate to establish and coordinate a district instructional walk through process to monitor the implementation of the curriculum and to identify professional learning needs
• Utilize data from assessments, instructional walk-throughs, and stakeholders to evaluate the curriculum, identify needed revisions, and lead revision efforts to ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum
• Direct and facilitate the cyclical revision of the curriculum as outlined in the Curriculum Management Plan and ensure regular updates to the learning management system

Instructional Leadership
• Articulate the district's mission, instructional philosophy, Response to Intervention plan, assessment philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to district and campus leaders and the community, and solicit their support in realizing the mission
• Serve as a member of a district level Campus Support Team that engages in instructional walk-throughs to monitor the implementation of the curriculum and establish support structures for identified campuses
• Oversee the development of campus based instructional leaders to build capacity to support instructional programs and curriculum implementation
• Collaborate with the all departments in the Academic Division to provide service and support for learners, teachers, and campus administrators
• Lead, design, coordinate, and deliver professional learning and presentations for district personnel, parents, and other stakeholders
• Promote high expectations for collaboration, performance, and positive staff morale in working with teachers, elementary and secondary administrators, as well as central office personnel

Administrative
• Coordinate, evaluate, and provide leadership for the district’s Response to Intervention (RtI) program and processes to ensure provision of needed services for Tier I, II, and III regarding academic support
• Collaborate to develop and manage the annual Curriculum and Instruction budget and oversee the budgets of assigned departments to ensure prudent management of funds and human resources necessary to carry out the diverse functions of assigned departments
• Collaborate to lead the recommendation, review, and implementation of professional learning consultants and instructional resources aligned to district curricular goals
• Implement the policies and laws established by local policy, federal and state entities for all programs within the Curriculum and Instruction Department
• Collaborate to oversee the recruitment, selection, assignment, supervision, professional growth, and evaluation of departmental personnel within the Curriculum and Instruction department
• Serve as the District’s liaison at state and national workshops/conferences related to Response to Intervention and Technology and serve on committees to advance educational opportunities for all students
• Guide the development and implementation of district strategic, district improvement, and corresponding campus improvement plans to address district goals and objectives
• Adhere to all Federal, State, and local laws/policies governing curriculum instruction and Response to Intervention

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist in the process of recruiting, screening, interviewing, and hiring of assigned staff
• Initiate personnel actions including documentation and termination under the guidance of Human Resources
• Conduct performance appraisals of assigned staff
• Oversee ELA and Social Studies curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation
• Supervise and manage the District’s RtI process
• Monitor the implementation of the curriculum and learning management system
• Address complaints and resolve problems in a timely manner
Qualifications:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Master’s degree
• Minimum of 3 years of classroom teaching experience ELA or Social Studies
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in instructional program leadership at campus of district level, including 2 years’ oversight of the district or campus RtI programming

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
• Valid Texas Teacher Certification, Elementary or Secondary ELA or Social Studies
• Valid Texas Mid-management or Principal Certification preferred

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
• Demonstrated leadership in the development and implementation of instructional programs and intervention
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in implementation of District Initiatives
• Demonstrated knowledge in assessment design and development
• Proficiency in using Windows Operating System as well as Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both orally and in writing

Salary Range: $75,486 - $105,318
