Campus Description: The Coordinator of Assessment Design-ELA (EC–5) will work in collaboration with the Teaching and Learning Department to manage the development and implementation of elementary English Language Arts (ELA) assessments defined in the comprehensive local assessment program for the purpose of making instructional and programmatic improvements and measuring student progress. The incumbent will provide strong leadership in the area of assessment design and use to promote the District’s vision for Teaching and Learning.

Description/Notes: Curriculum Development
• Lead, design and develop curriculum and local ELA assessments aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
• Collaborate with curriculum team members to create and revise curriculum, assessment, intervention and enrichment documents
• Promote the District assessment philosophy through the inclusion of formative, interim and summative assessments in the ELA curriculum that assist teachers with monitoring student progress
• Articulate, support and oversee implementation of district instructional priorities aligned to the District’s philosophy for Teaching and Learning

Instructional Leadership
• Facilitate the use of data to determine student progress, make instructional and programmatic decisions and to evaluate curricular needs
• Design, coordinate and conduct professional learning and presentations for teachers, district personnel, parents and other stakeholders aligned to best practices for instruction and adult learning
• Collaborate with district and campus leaders to ensure best practices in assessment design and use of data to make informed instructional decisions
• Attend state and national assessment workshops and conferences and serve on committees to advance best practices in assessment design aligned to the District’s mission and vision
• Advise and support district-wide curriculum events and contests related to the District’s instructional programs
• Assist instructional coaches and teachers in integrating formative assessment practices in schools and individual classrooms
• Serve as member of a Campus Support Team to engage in instructional walk-throughs and facilitate campus support structures in collaboration with the campus principal and district leaders
• Evaluate the implementation of the curriculum using multiple data points including instructional walk-throughs and assessments




Administrative & Program Management
• Monitor and maintain student achievement data, including data from Response to Intervention (RtI) screeners and provide regular updates to applicable stakeholders to promote the success of all students
• Lead the review, administration and use of identified content area assessments that support the local assessment program, including RtI screeners
• Coordinate the selection and purchase of instructional and assessment materials, professional development, products and services
• Collaborate with district leaders in Special Education to design local assessments, including online assessments, which include TEA approved accommodations
• Collaborate to develop and administer budget based on alignment to district priorities and ensure that operations are cost effective and managed wisely
• Coordinate instructional program components, support needs and materials for the purpose of meeting student needs while complying with district and/or program guidelines
• Develop and update required planning documents including the District Strategic Plan and the District Improvement Plan
• Manage the maintenance and use of the curriculum within the learning management system
• Adhere to all Federal, state and local laws and policies
• Coordinate and monitor the District’s local curriculum assessment program
• Support the development and implementation of the District assessment philosophy

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide leadership and direction to campus based assessment coordinators to support the implementation and use of data from local assessments
• Assist in the process of recruiting, screening, interviewing and hiring of assigned staff
• Initiate personnel actions including documentation and termination under the guidance of Human Resources
• Conduct performance appraisals of assigned staff
• Address complaints and resolve problems in a timely manner
Qualifications: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Master’s degree
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a classroom teacher in elementary ELA
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in instructional leadership at the campus or district level

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
• Valid Texas Teacher Certification
• Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification preferred
• Valid ESL Certification or must be able to obtain within one year of hire

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices related to the implementation of district initiatives
• Demonstrated knowledge in curriculum, instruction and assessment development
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both orally and in writing
Salary Range: $69,443 - $99,930
