Description/Notes: The Executive Director of the South Texas Association of Schools provides overall direction and management of the organization to attain its mission and goals.

Service area includes Region One ESC and Region Two ESC.
Qualifications: QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

PREREQUISITES:

* Master's Degree;

* Minimum of five years of campus and/or central administrative experience;

* Minimum of five years of teaching experience.

PREFERRED:

* Doctorate’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Leadership.

* Professional Superintendent’s experience preferred;

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

· Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

· Experience working with a Board of Directors

· Knowledge of the legislative process and

· Ability to interpret policy and procedures

· Ability to use software to develop spreadsheets, perform data analysis, and do word processing

· Ability to manage budget

· Ability to speak effectively before groups, the board of directors, and various organizations

EXPERIENCE:

* 10 years of progressively responsible experience in public school administration;

* 5 years of supervisory experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries, regulatory agencies, or members of the legislature. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply personal computer and spreadsheet skills. Must be able to speak on demand to large groups of people. Must be able to travel among government buildings, districts, and cities. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all state, federal, and Board of Education policies.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Represent the interests of the students served in regions one and two in the legislative and rulemaking process.

2. Facilitate the development of the association’s legislative agenda.

3. Provide governmental leaders with current information on education issues.

4. Develop and maintain effective relations with federal and state officials and Maintain effective communication with the membership.

5. state boards and agencies.

6. Develop and maintain effective relations with other professional associations, educational entities, and public officials.

7. Serve as the chief executive officer of the association.

8. Ensure that the association’s business is conducted in conformity with the association’s policies, its constitution and by-laws, and other applicable laws and regulations.

9. Define the association’s needs and develop plans and budget recommendations accordingly.

10. Propose programs and secure Executive Committee approval for budgets needed to fulfill STAS's mission, goals, and objectives.

11. Direct program planning and evaluate programs and contract personnel.

12. Represent the association through written and oral communication.

13. Perform other duties as directed by the Executive Committee through the president or which may be required by the constitution.

Salary Range: $72,000/year
